Some companies won't accept a DUI at all. Some will accept one.

I'm in the same boat. One in 1991 and one in 1999.

Forget it, dude. You're already not taking this seriously. Why should anyone take a chance on you?

Great, issues with authority, too. Sorry for being blunt, but "a few pot charges" in between two dui's and you're asking if you are wasting your time? Yes, you are if you cannot be 100% deadly serious and committed to what you are attempting to do. You will be in charge of operating very dangerous machinery, in all weather conditions, under stress, within strict time limits, and with little sleep, all without losing your temper or deciding to use drugs or alcohol to cope with the situation. To be able to do that means you must be serious about it. Being serious starts now, or you are wasting your time. Mocking my response is frankly being childish. You asked, I'm giving you my opinion. Sorry if it hurts, but better now than after you kill or injure someone.

Why didn't you ask this question before you sold your lawn business? Florida always has been and always will be an Employer's market. Folks flood our market running from the Northern winters.

One DUI keeps you out of Canada, I have a dui from 1998 and was told can't go to Canada, from what I hear going to Canada is more hassle than its worth, US customs is a pain in the #####.

Don't worry, either of you two; there's companies that will hire you. The CDL school may want a couple of pre-hire letters before classes start, but that's no problem either. Contact the CDL school and get the process started.

I'm not worried. Yes there are some companies that won't hire me. Yes, I won't be able to drive to Canada most likely. I can live with both of those.

I quit drinking in 2004, so I know there won't be any more DUI issues other than what I have.

Yeah, there's plenty of companies that will hire you.....just don't expect to ever drive for UPS or FedEx. Most companies that won't hire DUIs do so because of the insurance issues, but most insurance companies won't require an increased amount after so many years have passed since said DUI (which is why companies say 5,7,10, or 15 years on DUIs). Just keep filling out applications until someone hires you, get your year in with that starter company, and then you'll see that a lot of the companies who weren't willing to hire you before will do so now (especially with the driver shortage). The stigma on this site against DUIs is total b*llsh*t, don't feed the trolls. When I was first interested in driving, I was told by several companies who knew about my record to come back and talk to them once I had some clean experience under my belt. I have 2 DUIs on my record (2005 and 2008 and I got a job with West Side Transport out of Iowa. Decent starter company that pays #### (starts at .33cpm for new students) but maintains great equipment (I'm currently driving a 2015 International), and has no problem with you refusing to drive anything that'll risk a CSA score (a simple call to the home shop will have you routed to the nearest repair station, no questions asked). I've been doing Midwest Regional runs for 3 months and have been home every weekend, just as they promised.
