Typical call with a company recruiting department AFTER doing my online research:
Me: Hi, my name is Xlsdraw. I see on your website that you hire students. Is that correct?
Recruiter: Yes sir, we do hire students.
Me: Ok great. I also see on your website that you hire out of Florida. Is that correct?
Recruiter: What part of Florida do you live in sir?
Me: Central Florida between Tampa and Orlando.
Recruiter: Yes sir, we have a terminal in Central Florida, and you are in our hiring zone.
Me: Well great. After I get started in my CDL training I'll be contacting you guys again and fill out an application.
Recruiter: Hold on sir.
Me: Yes, is there a problem.
Recruiter: I'm afraid there is.
Me: What's the problem?
Recruiter: Well you see, we do hire students and we do hire from your part of Florida BUT we don't hire students from your part of Florida. We require atleast 1 year's experience to hire from your area. So feel free to apply when you attain that experience.
Me: Well thanks for your time.

-
Thanks 123456, I've seen it a while back. Unfortunately, times have changed since that list was published. Seems like things change daily based on demand. I'm scheduled for school starting Jan 4 at the local Vocational school and the state is paying most of the cost with funds available for displaced workers. So I'm gonna proceed and hope for the best when I get close to graduation.

I hope you're right Spoke.

Holler if you need more ideas.
Good Luck !! -

Thanks 123456, you and Chompi have been a great asset to us Florida students. I did actually talk to one recruiter that actually said she visits my school. Donna with Windy Hill. If I recall, I think Chompi had a relative that worked there at one time. Their safety stats don't look to good but I may not end up with many options.
123456 Thanks this. -
Chompi also suggested to me Armellini. Check them out too.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
Hey xlsdraw, what company was that, WEL? That's a good one! Boy that's a recruiter thinking on their feet, huh! I swear I am going to get a job as a recruiter just to have fun! What a bunch of crap!
Anyway, yeah my cousin worked for Windy Hill, he's probably one of the ones who brought the safety stats down! Actually I knew a bunch a guys who have worked there and they have all had good to say. It's a real good family company. Are the trucks brand new, no. I think one of the best things about that company is that they leave you alone to do your job. There is a qualcomm in the truck but my cuz said they rarely bothered him on it. No checking in every ten minutes like the mega-carriers. Another good thing is that they have a lot of multiple stops/drops and they get paid per mile and per stop so you can make some really good money. They do a lot of home depot's and walmarts and such. No warehouses though, directly to the stores. My cousin loved it because he always had parking rights at the stores so he always had a nice little private parking place. He was a good driver and always had more miles than he could handle. No paperless logs either. You do have to make sure to match your logs to your tolls though.
Spacecoast and xlsdraw Thank this.
