If you have air, the Lincoln pneumatic grease gun is worth the money. Squeeze & hold the trigger and it pumps the grease. Only downside is frequent cartridge changes...especially if it's been a while since you last greased. If you don't have air (or simply don't want to drag an air line around behind you), the Lincoln battery operated gun does the same job...but then you're dealing with batteries (I've never really had good luck with rechargeable portable tool batteries, so I just stick to plug-ins or air-powered). Don't waste your money on the cheap ($30-40) pneumatic guns...if you're going to spend the money, buy quality.

As for grease, the red stuff seems to work fine. Mystic brand is available most places for a reasonable price compared to other brands.

If your going to go battery powered, get the Milwaukee, do not get the Lincoln. The handles always break out of them. Our Milwaukee's have been great. And their batteries last longer. Plus you can add the 1/2 impact to carry with you as well if you stay with the M18 series. I love having my impact with me. Just my .02

I carry a CP 1/2" gun in the truck. Already got an air compressor, may as well use it. Beats having to mess around with keeping batteries charged & worthless tools if the batteries are dead. I just never have had very good luck with battery-powered tools, so they aren't something I even consider when looking to buy. I've always either got power or air to plug into.

I've run Milwaukee 18 volt tools for a while. My original batteries are over 8 years old and they still work great. Took the tin off the roof and back wall of a 20' x 60' lean-to with my 1/4" impact and only used a battery and a half.
