You have a bad FM. I have NEVER been home late for home time and I have NEVER had to worry about HOS violations running with the plan I was given.
Nobody is going to hold your hand in this business (or any business for that matter) If you build a good relationship with you Fleet Manager life becomes pretty easy.

Bottem line: Large companies are in this biz for one reason.. to make large money. Drivers are NOT valued, we are expendable components. Period. We live in a cold, hard world. research your company before even applying. Check their DOT rating, find and TALK to their drivers, check blogs like the ones in this forum, look their drivers and equipment over when you're sitting in the truckstop. If you're a rookie.. resign yourself to the fact that WHOMEVER you go with, you need to be there a minimum of a year, 2 yrs even better. It's taken me several yrs of growing up as a driver, taking bigtime lumps and WAY too many jobs to finally find the company I'm with now, who treats me like gold. They surely are NOT a big company! For me, mom n pop is the only way to go-- anything else is hype, bullcrap and lies. The only way you get into a good mom n pop outfit is to pay your dues. If you look at trucking other than a lifestyle of total commitment, get away from the rig and go to Burger King where you belong! Juss sayin

These USX people actually wanted me to take hundreds of dollars out of my pocket so I could get a team to upstate New York because they had reservations at some hotel over the weekend at Niagara falls.
These USX people wanted me to give up my 1 stop load from WA to VA and do a 9 stop candy run in Jersey NY and Conn because the team was whining like a stuck pig.
These arrogant teams would actually try to cut in front of you at the wash bay saying they would be late to steal another solos load if they had to wait.
They would walk around with their little poodle mutts in matching USX attire while their mutts craped and pissed where they saw fit.
You go into the laundry room at the terminal and they would have every washer and dryer tied up with a months worth of laundry. And would be no where around hoping you would move their crap from the washer to the dryer for them so they could catch up on their movie watching undisturbed.
There so delusional they actually think they got a DM fired at USX because they missed a doctors appt.
I was a team- solo- trainer- regional- and local driver at this outfit for almost 7 years. I worked at 1 otr carrier before them and 2 after and they where by far the worst company to work for out of all of them as a solo driver. Especially if you live on the west coast.
I made good money and good miles for all but the last 3 years. Then it was a constant fight to get miles get any sleep and to get home You stay out 4 to 6 weeks and getting home will still be at the needs of the company. And more their teams needs will alway be before the solo at USX.drvrtech77 Thanks this. -

Wow, I leave for a couple weeks and look what happens. LOL
OK, Yes I have had a harder time lately getting home time. My FM is top notch and works hard for me. I attributed the recent issues with home time to the load planners that came over from Arnold. I base this on some great inside intel.
OO, Lease and teams will always get treated better than solo's. Just the way it is. No amount of hand wringing, b444ching or whining will change it.
This is a tough life. I do get discouraged occasionally. But I chose the work and the company. I may stay or I may not.
I will say that now, as of today of the 5 drivers I started with, I remain. Just me.
I drive an 07 Volvo with 580,000 miles. It is a POC. It is falling apart. I have spent 35 days total in the last 6 months in the shop. Thats like taking two months a year off without pay. When I called in and asked when I could expect to trade the old girl in, I was asked "Are you a solo"?
Am I looking elsewhere. You bet. As soon as I get past August (personal reasons) I will find somewhere else to be.
Am I PO'd at USX? No. I got a good job and some great experience. Shake the sand out of your panties and drive. -
2nd i was solo, team, solo, team. so i have been solo and the miles were good 3200+ per week and i was always home on time....!
3rd YES i did get a fm fired as well as 1 person in breakdown (along with a 3 page SORRY from the head of breakdown on the qualcomm) and 1 mechanic. -
I started on 05/10/97 to 03/08/04 thats almost 7 years. Was dropping loads at the Fontana term before they even opened Colton in a 10 speed truck before the auto shifts. And my last truck was a Columbia with the stupid plastic nob. Do the math and get back on the porch.
This is the arrogance of the team drivers at USX. Just make sure you check that pin a lot at your terminal, is all I can say.

Don't like the strait dish on USX? There is a USX hug fest in another forum. Frankly I yawn at the cheerleaders coming here whining about personal attacks when they don't like what is being said.
Here is another quote (not by me) that a USX cheerleader should take personally. Seems my credibility is intact. You either settle for USX or go find a more then mediocre company.
