So I've been trucking for just shy of ten years. I was at loves in Jeffersonville, OH last week getting some work done on my rig and ran into a bunch of nice drivers. One driver was an O/O and has been for a very long time and has done many lease options every couple years (I'm assuming to cycle trucks). He made it sound very very tempting to try. Yes i do have kids, no I don't mind being out and back on the weekends (more regional style) and i do have experience in many areas of the trucking industry. So really my question is who has done it and what was the process like for you?
I'd be out of columbus, oh.

Thanks guys and gals, stay safe!

Excellent option if you want to earn the same if not less than a company driver while you take on more risk and bills

USX is a chameleon company, these days. They’ve earned such a bad reputation no one will work for them…unless they’ve no clue about the industry. That’s why they created Variant. It’s the same crap company, just different colored tractors and a new batch of unsuspecting hopefuls coming through their door.

Covenant is the same. They’ve created TEL, which is their fleece-purchase offshoot. Covenant used to be decent, back in the 90’s. They’ve been on a steady decline and needed to come up with something else to try and stay afloat. Again, it’s about bringing another batch of unsuspecting hopefuls through the door.

You have too many other options, around Columbus, OH.

Lol i was waiting for that response. Im a dedicated driver with VL but I get so dang bored driving the same thing everyday. The only plus side, that i can think of, is having my own truck in 4 years while having the discounts and fuel surplus.
    Are you O/O or C/D?

Mega carrier would only offer lease if it benefits the company.

    The pay is low.
    Look it up.

My problem is when i came out of doing oilfield trucking I was in a bad spot (mentally) and bounced around a bit because of promised green pastures and glitter and .
Needless to say I did it to myself and hob hopped to much and it seems to be harder to get the good jobs. And i understand, no one wants to invest into someone for them to quit 10 months later.

    ducnut Thanks this.

Stick with being bored, going home everyday, consistency, and having a life with your family. When you get old, you’ll regret not spending time with your kids. When you’re not in their lives, they grow up and continue living their lives without you. Trust me, on this.

I’m bored hauling into AEP, every-other-day. But, I have work, everyday.

Deere hunter and Stormmc2 Thank this.

It's hard lol ahhh sigh. Stupid trucking lol. I guess i just to make more and have some freedom to do other runs. I don't want to be gone all the time just like 3 days a month every once in a while.

Deere hunter and ducnut Thank this.

Save some money, wait until the market gets better then get a truck and go out on your own if you want.

Fleasing from a mega carrier is last thing you should do. Anybody here will tell you the same thing.

Deere hunter, flood, Stormmc2 and 3 others Thank this.
