My DH went through orientation at Tunnel Hill just three weeks ago. Though he did not stay at the motel, so I don't know the circumstances there. A noon meal was provided during orientation. Most other trucking companies do not provide return fare home if you don't make through orientation. My DH is a solo company driver with a "Atlanta regional" route. He is out 5 days and is home on weekends. He was not forced to drive "team". When he completed orientation, he was given a brand new 2011 truck with only 8 miles on it.

guys, this is waht happens when the bean counters take over from the driver oriented management of a company. CR England went through this in the mid 90's. when a company focuses on making money off their truck leases as opposed to their loads, they are ultimately going to pay the price with more accidents and freight issues. a seasones IC will make money with their own truck - not one leases through the parent company.
some of the new generation drivers don't understand that it is a business and a life style; there's more to it that a shiny-wheel truck in the hammer lane at 75 mph. remember, the lease -sales guys are salespersons not truckers and their job is to sell trucks and leases. Most of they are slick and not totally 1005 honest in any company and don't know a fifth wheel from a widget adn would try to see you load locks for a tanker if you were dumb enough to buy them!!
stay focused on the road and the load and be safe out there.Guitar Man Thanks this. -
All poop aside what is the honest trueth about US ? I have entered my application & trying to find out if what I am reading is true or just trucker gossip ? Who knows the real story behind US as for solo drivers being forced to teams & or being tossed out thier trucks & terminated ??????

say "sure ill run teams"
get your team mate, get your first load...tell the guy you want to drive first......drive directly to your house, unload all of your belongings and tell your team mate to have a good life
i couldnt run teams period, especially with a complete stranger.......i did it for a week and it was hellRollover the Original and I_HATE_MINIVANS Thank this. -
They'd bill you for the fuel. I'd just run the team and disappear while on home time.
When I quit Covenant, the rumor mill at the time had me convinced that if you quit, and give 2 wks notice, at the end of the 2 weeks they'll leave you at a terminal thousands of miles from home without even a bus ticket, and if you didn't give notice, you wouldn't get your last check. Not sure if that's true but I didn't want to take the chance.
So I got home on regular home time, cleaned out the truck, then said I needed to take emergency LOA because my brother was dying. (I don't even have a brother) I ran the truck down to the Indianapolis terminal and had my dad follow me with my Ranger. After I got all the money they owed me, I called and quit. When I made that phone call, I was actually behind the wheel of a Roadway truck. -
