The uber and Lyft app kicks you out after 12 hours but it's a trick to log back in and still drive.
That is a first for me never knew they had you guys do a DOT check. I did notice you guys have to work harder for the pay you guys get where in LA it's always busy with request

I don't think it's true, the DOT physical thing. I'm waiting for Striker to comment. BTW I don't drive for any ride share service.

Uber doesn't make you buy a special phone. You can use you own smart phone or if you don't have one they will rent you one.

The CDL physical is a common requirement for any job that involves transporting people since it's a good guideline of who is safe to drive. It helps keep insurance costs down by keeping high risk people out.

But there's also laws that people need to look into, you're a taxi service in every definition of the word. Those people in your car aren't always covered by your insurance. Depending on your state, this can make what you're doing illegal. Be careful, make sure you cover your ###, because in an accident, you can guarantee the person you were driving will be looking to sue you.

That's a good point. What happens if a passenger is hurt\killed? What happens if the Uber driver is injured or his\her car damaged\totaled? I don't think their personal automobile insurance would cover this because they were engaged in commercial work. A driver could potentially lose everything in the event of a lawsuit.

You can add the needed insurence to cover the work being done. Also driving for uber isn't DOT regulated so that is confusing is it just a CO thing? Because in California and other states it's hot needed or requested by the service

Both are a requirement of Colorado PUC (Public Utilities Commision), they requirement we must have a DOT physical, DOT (similar to) vehicle inspection annually, The HOS that Uber/Lyft/Cabs/Limos/Livery services operate under are set by PUC in Colorado, not DOT.

Physicals are a requirement of the state of Colorado, it's buried within the regulations for the cab companies. It's odd, I started with Lyft in Sept., and Uber in Oct. When I started with Lyft, they were not requiring physicals, but Uber was. In mid Oct., we got a message from Lyft that beginning Nov. 1st we had to have it or we couldn't drive. I gave them a copy of my short form that I carry in my wallet. Uber required a copy of the long form that my trucking company has on file.

It's actually a max of 14 hrs we can drive, yes there are work arounds to it, but why push it or yourself. Keep in mind, as a trucker, my body and brain are conditioned after 18 yrs to go longer than normal. 90% of the people who do this either as a side job or full-time in some cases, are desk jockey's, retirees or similar jobs where they might work 10 hrs a few dozen times a year, otherwise they rise at 5 am and go to bed at 10 pm, work 8 or 9 hrs, and then go home.

From the Lyft webpage for drivers in Colorado, effective Nov. 1st, 2015

So, insurance varies. My POV insurance is with Allstate, they do not have coverage yet (beginning in Dec. it will be available) for ridesharing drivers. At present, I am covered by the Commercial Umbrella policy that Uber and Lyft have, very similar to the commercial umbrella policies that a trucking company might have to cover themselves and their company drivers. However, we are 1099 employees, but are still covered by the insurance. Some insurance companies do offer riders to your regular insurance policy to cover ride sharing. You must carry regular car insurance and have it available. With Uber, at any time while in drive mode I can show someone a copy of the Uber insurance policy, it's available from my phone.
