    Youre being a tad naive.

When you are out on the road and parked at a truck stop for the night, leave your CB radio on and listen to the conversations.

You will learn pretty quick that not all truckers are wonderful people.

The advice you are given about keeping to yourself -- especially while you are going through school -- is very wise.

Starter fleets are all fraternities. Gossip worse than high school.

I had the same thing happen to me with Lyft. I report her for being rude and slamming my door. Somehow she so called reported me, and I guess they believed her. Working for ride-sharing gave me fits. I was reported multiple times for drinking or smelling like alcohol, and I was 7 years sober last month. It screwed up my financial situation too. And don't forget fighting with people over wearing a mask.

if there is anything that’s unclear or that you have questions about please ask, I know it’s a pain to reschedule tests in the time that we are in nowadays

I attended the Swift Academy in Phoenix almost 5 years ago. It wasn't " boot camp", but it wasn't a 5th grade field trip either. It was 3 weeks of serious business. There is lots of stuff to cram into 160 hours. I was very thorough, the instructors were well qualified and didn't put up with any BS. I was also fortunate to be assigned a competent Mentor. I was very satisfied with my experience and feel I got a solid foundation to build on. Trucking school is a lot more about what YOU put into it, as opposed to where you go to school. They all have one goal in common. Teach you the skills necessary to pass your Pre Trip, Skills and Road Test and obtain your CDL. Truck Driving School does not teach you to be a Truck Driver.

I went to the Swift Academy in Phoenix in August and September of 2019. The advice about keeping your nose clean during the training is good advice. You are not automatically hired and offered a job just because you go to their academy. Swift reserves the right not to extend a job offer. That said, I started with a class of 19. We were whittled down to 8 when we started our second week. Those 8 of us ended up being a good group. We bonded pretty well, got along and encouraged and helped each other. However, I don't think that happens with every class. But, be serious and earnest and humble and you should get through just fine. Be warned, there's a few dogs and don't during training. One of them is, if you are using the accomodations they provide for lodging, DO NOT drink alcohol of bring any to the hotel. If they find out, they will send you home post haste. And, the hotel will inform Swift if they see any booze.
As for the mentor, it is the luck of the draw. Lots of good mentors out there and lots of not so good ones. You just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. I had issues with my mentor during the first week. But, after a week things calmed down and I realized I actually had a really good mentor. He was an old crude, gruff Mexican dude. But, he had a heart of gold and 16 years of experience he was willing and eager to share. I will always have really fond memories of my time with my mentor. He and I laughed alot!!! He has since retired.
Anyway, best of luck to you!!

    5 years at uber.
How much did you make a year at uber.
I didn't think someone could afford there own
Place, pay all the bills and have some money left over
    Working there.
    It's a 15 to 20 grand a year job.
    I'm just guessing on that.

What bothers me is yesterday I had an Uber ride from the dealer back to my shop, the driver had a camera to protect them and the passengers.

If you were with Uber five years, then you know the game, you protect yourself ... this isn’t new.

    @hopeful eyes
    1) Respectfully speaking, you may not be up to driving a truck for a living, at least not yet. You may need to get some more life skills around various other types of people, if nothing else, just to overcome some naiveté, (being naïve), to be more aware of people around you.

    2) Again, respectfully speaking, for someone your age, you do come off as being rather naïve about people in general.

Good luck to you and your family! God bless your entire family!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.

Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, all year round.

Just an observation, but I think @hopeful eyes is one of those people that think in terms of right and wrong, good and evil if you will. That good will prevail over evil, right will triumph over wrong.

It's better to start thinking in terms of cause and effect. The things you do, the things you say, the people you hang out with, the attitude you have, the words you use, the effort you put out..... all have an effect. The right effort, at the right company, with the right attitude, with the right friends will have the effect you are looking for.
