Before you get too extreme: you get upset, then you “have a moment of clarity” pretend to reintroduce yourself and be calm, get the persons name, write it on the paperwork and write “refused” then walk the #### out.

The cops don't just show up and take you to jail and impound your truck. You tell them the situation. You now have an official report you were there. And now you leave peacefully.
The last time it happened to me, the receiver straight up told me he didn't like the quality of the produce, and was not going to write anything on my paperwork, it would be like I just never showed up. Ya ok like I am going to let that happen. I had the upper hand, as this place only had 2 docks and one was broken so I said well without anything on the bills I'm not leaving your dock. Other trucks were also there to deliver. You can guess how popular I was that day.
In the end he "received under protest". The state food inspector came later and deemed the produce fit for human consumption. I will never haul a load for this place ever again. Had I not stood up for myself they'd probably make a claim against me for a stolen load. = destroy my small business. For what? Because he didn't like the quality? Not the carriers problem.The_Great_Corn, Buckeyes614, Opendeckin and 7 others Thank this. -
That’s true, a tough guy attitude never helps anything.
Bending over isn’t the only alternative to that though.
I’m not a one truck, one trailer, working for random brokers carrier either tho; my options are different than theirs. I don’t need to be a tough guy to anyone to get my point across.
The only example I have similar, the business owner came out screaming before I even got in the driveway: I was cordial, Ive been there before, I know they’re not a top notch operation.
I left, did my other stops with a little finagling, was begged to go back and deliver by the end of the day because they needed it, got back towards the end of the business day and got an apology (not that I needed one, however apologizing for overreacting is suitable; overreacting in and of itself is unprofessional) and charged an extra few hundred. Had he been cordial/professional in the first place I’d have charged extra, just not as much.
Gotta be calm and know what the limitations of a situation are: and play your hand accordingly.Intothesunset, Mattflat362, p608 and 2 others Thank this. -
Here's the key... Every situation is different, use your brain, stay calm and cover your ##* , document everything you can.
Dave_in_AZ, shogun and Ruthless Thank this. -
If you come into my place of business and think for 1 second you have the upper hand I can and will have you arrested for trespassing and your truck towed out of my dock.
-
And that's how it should be done, screaming and hollering blocking a dock is only going to end bad for you.

If you're a customer who thinks I will just be cool with your attempt at making a fraudulent claim against my insurance, then yes, I will be a dick to you, go ahead call cops, when they arrive I will say my side of the story you can say yours. In the end I will leave, report in hand, your fraudulent claim will be denied. I hope you can see where I am coming from.Opendeckin, dunchues, autopaint and 3 others Thank this.

You don't get it, I am under no obligation to unload you if I don't want the freight, that freight became YOUR responsibility as soon as you signed the bol and remains your responsibility until somebody accepts it. I can and will call the cops and press charges against you if you want to be an ######, the cops have no choice but to arrest you if I file the charge, so go ahead be a tough guy.

Are you a driver or a warehouse /dock person?
