Ughmm, the ELD measures on/off work hours ..

Discussion in 'Canadian Truckers Forum' started by skipgears, Nov 13, 2020.

I want to be paid by:

  1. the mile (like a neanderthal)

  2. the hour (like an office monkey)

  3. neither, I just wish I was dead, #### off and leave me alone

Results are only viewable after voting.

This is how our local driver are paid... Hourly based off ELD time... Get to work go ON DUTY, anything that is OFF DUTY time for the day is logged as SLEEPER, end of day go OFF DUTY. Paid for everything except what you logged OFF DUTY (should only be your 10 hr resets)... I occasionally work local, like this week... I make nearly twice as much OTR (40 cpm) than I do for the same number of days of local ($15 per hour).

Just how do you propose that drivers push their company into changing the compensation model? Most trucking company execs that I know aren't going to be pushed into anything.
The only way I see that happening is by a job action such as a strike, a slowdown, or a work-to-rules movement. In this day and age I doubt any of those would be successful.
You talk like a union man. Are you a labor organizer? Do you represent a union?

Before ELD it would have been harder to pay hourly. With ELD being an officially recognized time keeper there's no reason not to be paid by the hour.

I believe that OTR drivers should be paid for the fulltime that they are available to work including waiting and sitting at a truck stop.
The driver is responsible for furthering the company's intrest. If the driver needs to shut down for parking why should they be penalized? It's in the company interest to shut down. Driver should be paid. Imagine a dispatcher having to clock out when they are off the phone.

Pay won't change much at first. Your yearly wage can be divided up to equal out a daily per hour rate.

Some will slack off. This is what managers are for. Software would quickly come out to make it simple.

I would like it to be hourly simple for the transparency. There will still be bottom feeders and top carriers. But they won't be able to dupe people as easily.

At $8 minimum wage for 70 hr with OT it would give a driver $680 a week. I've heard of drivers making this. If you want better pay go to better company. I'm not advocating a set pay scale. But I am advocating for the same transparency as all the other industries have.

No. But I should, I think. You know any hiring? Cause that's what we need. Unionship and strikes until our demands are met. The Teamsters used to do that back in the day, but now we need to replace them with something great, haha. --Trump pun. But seriously, unions today are joke, we all know that. We need new and modern solutions for this sort of thing. Perhaps a virtual online union, through an app. If that's not a thing already, it needs to be.

They tried too unionize my old company. Boss thought I was a union agitator. When I sat down with him he found out we agreed with each other.

A single company going union would hurt the company and therefore hurt the workers.
An entire industry setting up union like work standards would benefit the workers but would also benefit the companies.
    It has to be win-win.
I'm pro old school union, bosses can't mistreat worker. I'm against the new unions that will hurt a company by defending a POS worker.

The transparency of hourly pay would only negatively affect the bottom feeders. Good companies will ultimately benefit.
