Ya ya. But more power gets you out and over the local noise! It will never change! Give it up!

Give up WHAT? I talk on VHF handhelds for 50-100 miles--on 5 watts! I can chat with Barcelona, Spain with 50 watts SSB from the mobile. The noise on CB? THAT is part of the problem!!!!!!! The noise is SELF-CREATED, SELF-GENERATED! OK, people wanting to "get out" over the other guy, increase THEIR power. THEN the other guy who gets covered up increases HIS power to out-talk the first guy. So now, the first guy increases HIS power again. Meanwhile, as these fellows are doing this, OTHERS are doing the same thing, increasing the ambient noise (SCREEEEEEE, HOOOOOOWL, ROOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRR!) So they ALL increase power yet again, not understanding that they are creating their own problem. It all exascerbates the problem again and again. Then you have the deliberate "king-on-the hill" type who MUST be louder than anyone else (we have these in ham radio, too!) It just makes it all worse for everybody.

I find it hard to believe this guy was able to communicate on channel 6 of the citizens band and still be able to have his signal heard 5.06 mHz away.....on only 200 watts of power. Maybe if it was 20 kW of power...

Incorrect. While a sideband radio is more efficient than a standard AM CB radio, per FCC rules, you are only allowed to run 12 watts peak envelope power on single sideband.

Your right 20 watts IS pretty measly. But you did not speak to the comment quoted below, which I tend to agree with.

Probably had much more to do with whatever mods he had sloppily done to his radio than how much power he was pushing. I'm in favor of running high power if done properly and used responsibly. On the other hand, I'd really like to find that guy that hollers "AAUUUUUUUUUUUDIO" all day long and beat him to death with his own microphone.

Looks like the FCC has approved Mr. Jones' $7,000 loan application, and given him until the end of this month to pay it back...:yes2557: While I don't agree with just letting government into my house whenever they ask, I think when you have a "station" setup you pretty much waive any warrant requirement. Don't want the gestapo storming in, don't be soooo stupid. After the first time, I think I would have got the hint, and stopped with the foot-warmer. Heck if you're gonna do that, at least be smart enough to disconnect it when not using it. Then if and when the FCC shows up, invite them in, let them see your little factory 4 watt radio.

Waay back when I was a kid, there was a older couple that had "station" that could talk to Mars. She used to go by the handle, "Bat Lady". She would not use her linear all the time, but when she did, you knew it. The FCC tried to catch her several times, but never was able to. Of course she didn't upset the CB crowd, just her neighbors. Heck this was when everyone and their brothers had a base CB, one in every car, and a walkie-talkie. Her and her husband were nice, respectable people. The CBers (word?? ) would help her out, whenever we would spot the conspicuous FCC vehicles rolling in, we made sure it was well published...
