Find the location, then go hang out there and see what trucks are going in/out. Call the ones you've never heard of and ask if they are hiring.

I worked for an O/O that was leased on to Smith Transportation on South 88th street in KC, Kansas. I think the owner of Smith Transportation might have had a truck or two of his own. Everything else was O/Os leased on. Some of the O/Os had small fleets. You'd most likely find an open truck or two with the small fleet owners.

One of the fleet owners is down here in Winter Haven, Florida and he used to call me from time to time to see if I was available. Can't remember his name but Smith Transportation will know if anyone needs a driver.

It seems like I read something not too long ago that Smith transportation sold out to a bigger company... Then again there are alot of companies that have the same name, thanks for the info I will look into it.

The KC Smith Transportation is not the one that sold out. It was the one in the NE.

The O/O I worked for eventually moved his trucks to Leonard's Express for a year or so and then went back to Smith in KC. He's still there. He gave up on trying to find drivers and is trying to sell a couple of his trucks. Just keeping one or two for himself.

My outbounds out of your area was almost always drop and hook preloaded trailer out of Seaboard/Triumph in St. Joseph.

My inbound to the KC area was Liberty Fruit, the various food service companies, and AWG in KC.

If I remember correctly, I think the owner's name of Smith Transportation is Greg Smith. They probably got between 50 and 100 trucks pulling for them.

You hit the nail on the head when you said I was going to have Eastern European dispatchers and Eastern European managers, this truck even has an Eastern European GPS (lol) everything they told me was a big lie, they basically told me I could run the areas that I want and all they are doing is keeping me in the Northeast area, tons of congested traffic and tolls everywhere, and you were also right about the 1099.... These guys love to argue, I'm going to finish out the week and have them bring me back to Kansas City, I don't think I could take another day of these guys... The e-log is called (daily elog) what a piece of garbage app, the first question they asked me on day one can I run 800 miles in a day (lol) that's not possible with elog, I told them it would be more like 600 to 650 a day, you have to account for traffic, road construction, weather conditions, accidents....
These guys think the truck is an airplane with no hiccups in the route, and their favorite thing to say is Google says this and that (lol) these dispatchers are pure amateurs, they have no clue what they're doing, they certainly don't have a mindset for the economy and the current state....
I'm heading home and looking for a new job I can't take another day of this garbage

I really need to try and find a phone number for these people, UMT turned out to be a big disappointment
