I like TMC but they don't have APUs on trucks. They also limit your idle time unless outside temp is over a certain limit. Most other trucks have APUs or idle engine for heat, AC, or electrical power. When you are parked, not idling and no APU, you will be listening to others running their engines and APUs. I'm not sleeping at a truck stop with my truck windows open depending on the honesty of others to not wake up with a visitor in my truck.

Well I'd like to know who the hell you're talking about because I couldn't find a single local company that would look at me without at least 6 months of experience. I have 2 college degrees, an airplane mechanics and pilots license and a 20 year work history. I'd say I'm pretty #### disciplined. But I had no driving experience. That's the only thing they'd look at. I even interviewed with a company and after I gave my spout about my credentials and work history he said "how much driving you got?" I said well I'm fresh out of CDL school. He then said basically. don't call us, we'll call you. I never heard back from him.
I'd even push my clean driving record of 20 years, nothing. Nobody cared. I finally asked one of them how was I supposed to get experience if nobody would hire me without it? His response? Go OTR like everyone else. -

Where is your location? Saw an ad today that Reinhart Foodservice only wants one month experience to be hired. Don't know if you live in the hiring area or not. There may be more companies that run local.Last edited: Dec 1, 2017

You're over selling yourself. It's not experience they're interested in. It whether or not you'll like the job and will stay long enough to be worth the investment in training you.
If you interview like you post, you're coming across as an officious jerk. Your credentials are irrelevant.TripleSix, driverdriver and Dan.S Thank this. -
Cypress is in FL, so you may have a better chance of getting home a bit more. And they're flatbed.

Thanks guys, a lot of good food for thought especially regarding the fitness portion. Again not being an experienced driver and reading threads regarding some of the food service trucking operations, I was of the opinion I would be wasting my time applying with them without at least 6 months or a year of experience either regional or OTR. Yes being home either nightly or at least on a weekend basis is important (and cheaper then a divorce settlement in my case) and pretty much non-negotiable. Would I just approach these co's after I graduate and apply on-line? I think I would have a better chance with a face-to-face but it seems decisions are made through applications in this industry, not personal interviews. Right/Wrong?
I don't want to bust my butt for free but money is kind of secondary for the first year as I want to put myself in a solid situation down the road. I was always planning on paying my own way through CDL school as there seem to be too many crazy restrictions and paybacks; I want to call my own shots yet don't want to job hop around the country. My local school (Sage in Ft Pierce) has a shady rep with some and the rest of the CDL schools are in Orlando, about 75 miles away. I'll travel if I can do a 160 hour school that doesn't want 6K-schools in Florida are more expensive then other areas. I could train in Atlanta as well as I have a home there.
I heard Cypress has pretty awful equipment and anything below .40 a mile for flatbedding isn't worth my
best efforts IMO.
