The "I am well known to the top 3 brokerages and 9 of the top 20" after LESS THAN 1 MONTH IN BUSINESS made me laugh. Even if he knew them from a prior working experience, these guys have "their guys". Yeah, they might throw someone they knew from their bowling league a bone, but I cant see...

HEY BOB! Dont call that guy we have been using for YEARS! Call this other guy that just started driving! I hear he is real good because he told me so...

I would agree for the most part, but...

Some of the small shippers i deal with (4 loads a week, flatbed stuff), a great attitude and personality makes a difference.

Stepping out of the truck looking like a walking talking PPE display would get rolled eyes and a thankful departure.

 

No where did I say anything close to that. If you’re going to quote me then quote me.

 

I can tell some of you guys dont know how to build a relationship with people...or would ever know what it takes to build a reputation as the go to guy that doesnt cause problems and gets #### done by any means... Many many many business people find an incredible amount of value in a guy like that and that guy will never be short of finding work if thats what he brings to the table everyday....

the spot market is an opportunity to make a name for yourself... Find people you like doing business with that offer fair deals and then establish something with them... Most of the freight that is being posted is the stuff their go-to guys either cant do, or they dont want... But its a foot in the door for you to get on that opportunity and build a name for yourself...

Or

You can complain the junk that is posted everyday you cant make money on ,and for anybody else that understands the value of the opportunity. and finds work outside of the spot market, they are liars and telling stories...

I said I was setup with not well known. I’ve never done a load for those 3. The discussion was about brokers not using new authorities. Like I said don’t put words in my mouth.

I run dedicated because I did all the right things to build a rep for myself with 3 brokers that I do 90% of my stuff with. I DO get 8 calls a day, and unless its one of those 3 brokers I dont answer it.

But, I can tell you from experience, it takes more than 1 MONTH to build those relationships....
