I had a guy once offer me $1,800 to take a load out to California and not report it. He was in a bind. I said I would but taxes would have to be paid. He said no way because then he would have to hire me. I walked away.

Chinatown, I will never agree to lieing. You are a great helpful guy on here but , if a person lies about smaller things , then what else will they lie about.

Good luck! In the meantime members will keep discussing (arguing) certain points on your getting hired.

There are times when I have been faced with should I believe someone or not. Lets be clear here though about something very important. There is a huge difference between answering a question in an honest way and volunteering information not asked for. I will never advise a person to lie, but I will advise someone to be very careful and actually look at what is being asked on an application before you just write something down. I have had long intense conversations with friends of mine that work in both carriers HR depts as well as Safety. this is what they tell me. If the lie is about job history or a failed drug test this is getting harder to cover up. If however the lie is about something that is really trivial why lie? Just open up and be honest about it because we have hundreds of unassigned tractors not producing revenue and we need you. We will help you get this fixed. I prescribe to the policy of being honest up front so you are not laying awake at night wondering if you are in trouble or not. My basic point is there are no real good reasons anymore to lie. There is some things on this subject and how they relate to (gasp) DAC but I won't go there, just too many people on here that are enjoying spreading these myths.

The problem is it's ones career on the line.

I understand your sentiment, and agree to a point. The biggest issue for me though is how everything is recorded and how it stays with you.
Say you have hit a bollard 3 times in the same dock (dedicated route) as the dock was made for 96" by 45' trailers. Just a little paint transfer, no damage.

Well, most companies count this as a wreck and in the hiring process see it as no different than say you fell asleep, plowed into a tour bus killing one and sending several to the hospital. Tell me, what is the benefit of the driver to admit to those paint scrapes?

And we have that happen at my company. When one switches out trailers 18 times in a 24 hour period for a dock built in the 40's.. Well scrapes happen. Luckily I work at a company that realises scrapes happen and as long as no damage, then no harm, no foul.
Other companies, well it's now 3 years before that stink dissipates. All because the company refuses to say to the shipper/receiver "You need to fix your docks to accept the trailers you require."

Before I go any further I am going to rat myself out. Just to save someone from thinking oh wow I am going to go do a search and tear this clown a new one. So here it is. I have stated in old threads where I have done and advised other drivers that ding and scratch drop trailers to ignore it and move on and try to not do it again. I stand by that to this day. Now I am not talking about taking half a side of a trailer out here either. This sounds like a contradiction by me. Maybe it is. I just don't see the point in getting a big brouhaha going over something that in most circumstances is a small minor incident. There that's said.

I am not going to say you are wrong @ZVar and I am not going to say you are right either. I am going to say this however. Sometimes when your career is on the line it is time to be totally honest with not only your life's and employment history, but to be honest with yourself and take stock of you and what you currently are. If you don't like what you see in the mirror then stop covering it up and change. As in my above example in a lot of situations with surveillance cameras sticking every where doing this and there not being a record is getting harder and harder to do. The same concept can also be said of the other things. Databases are being built everywhere. In this environment being untruthful even with a career on the line is going to become increasing more difficult to do. This is why I advise honesty.
