@Chewy352 thank you for that handbook .pdf. I'm also new to the flatbed side of trucking and any source of reference is greatly appreciated. This one is pretty dang comprehensive and will be well used in the future.

Here is a link to a company web site that has some good diagrams for loading steel products
load drawings
If you click the driver support drop down, you will see a choice for securement. then pick the one you want to look at.
most of the drawings are very good. In some cases, they use a chain where a strap works as well. -
Excellent advice! I have a feeling you're the kind of guy (same as me) that has his CB on all day and actually answers me when I ask "if you got them ears on and if you left anything behind you". I sure do miss the days when trucking was a passion and a way of life instead of "just another job" like it is now. Being able to push the button for "Drive" and following GPS seems to be all it requires anymore. 43 trucks passed by me today before I finally got a response on my radio. Looks like the real fun is just about over... I'll end my rant now, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just have a ton of pride in what I do and love every minute of it. My 2 cents = Get with a good, reputable company that truly values their drivers and you can make a good living without being miserable. Ask questions and be willing to learn. Don't be a super trucker, there are no "dumb" questions in my opinion and I enjoy helping others. Understand that there will be some bad that goes along with all the good. Don't turn down good money for silly reasons. Don't be afraid to work hard physically. Don't expect everything to "go as planned" because it won't. It's not easy, but it's not super hard either. It's challenging, different, and you have to think on your toes and troubleshoot but it's worth it... to me anyways. Don't take anything business to heart and don't believe everything you hear, especially from negative drivers. Most importantly, never let your emotions make bad decisions. Good luck, hand, and keep that rubber side down!Last edited: Jan 10, 2017

The trick to getting a comeback is to say there ain't no truck drivers that speak English anymore. Then your radio will blow up and you can ask what you want. Works every time
