eamac, if you want to stay in trucking, you're gonna have to be less picky about your search criteria. For example, with less than a year's experience, in all likelyhood, you're gonna have to consider OTR. Most local companies want at least 1 year verifiable OTR. Newly married or not. Or, you may have to consider a job out of the trucking industry altogether. It may come to a matter of priorities-what's more important-paying the bills, or staying home with your lady. It does suck being OTR, but if you and her are mature, not insecure in your relationship, and truly in love, you'll both adjust. THEN, after a year's experience, and keeping your record clean, you may have alot more choices to your liking. In the meantime, my friend, you have some heavy decision making to do. And think you must! Good luck!

here is the deal,
I got this ticket in Tom's Brook VA. I was on an onramp I81N sleeping.
Yes, I was stupid enough to pay it.
Virginia and other states, like Indiana are misleading the drivers with the law.
--if u read the law section on this violation, Virginia cannot impose points on this violation IF...u are resting or cannot drive due to the fact u need sleep.
--this applies to 4 wheelers. For a big truck, it is federal law that u need to take a break.
But here is where everything goes wrong...
you, the driver pay the ticket, and the way the law is written..the court makes its own decision.....and thts how u end up seeing 6 points onur rawhide (CDL). Now u cant get a job.
Weeks down the road..u pull ur mvr, and then realize tht this is not merely a parking ticket...Its reckless driving, and u r about to lose ur house and car and ur wife is about to divorce you.
No companies will hire you, and all u hv on your mvr is this dirty, communist, confederate, hillbilly ticket. and u swear that u will never drive in Virginia ever again. ( I wont, that state is useless, no jobs, filthy. the law enforcement there is out of control) The only state on the eastern seaboard that I do not care for in the worst way. Back in the 1700s and 1800s. people fled from Virginia because of its futile, unfair, commonwealth ways
THIS IS WHAT U NOW HV TO DO, because Virginia breaks its own laws to get revenue.
1. HIRE ATTOURNEY IN THAT AREA....it will cost u about 1500.00. thats wht it costed me.
2. They will reopen the case, and if ur record is good, the atty will talk to the prosecuter....and 800.00 later, this violation will dissappear off ur mvr.
3. DONT EVER PAY UR TICKETS...my dad inlaw used to tell me. HIRE AN ATTY. HE WAS SO RIGHT>>>>
GOOD LUCK and remember, bet the pass line.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 28, 2008

There are plenty of jobs in Virginia it is my home state and its is a hell of a lot cleaner then some dirty states you go through. Yes you needed to take a break because you were too tired to drive that no one is doubting the need to do that, but VA is not a communist commonwealth like PA is so please dont down the state just because you had one bad experience. You want to call a state dirty, communist, hillbilly, etc, etc, then look to Kentucky, Pennsylvania or something of that sort but VA is not those. Please in the future before you start throwing out names about a place or person or thing make sure you realize where fault is in the fact you should have fought the ticket. Your father-in-law had apparently even told you that so you should have listened to him.

I know a guy in a similar position who started over again buy being a yard jockey. He thinks this will keep him active in his profession while still trying to find a job driving? I don't know if it worked or not but at least he's driving. Good luck and hang in there.

That was a very immature statement, must be in first grade" my state is better then your state" -
I am not going to point fingers but VA has all those new crazy laws....I am glad I do not go throught there a whole lot. Anyways good luck finding something..I know years ago I had a suspension on my persoanl licesnse and I had to wait 3 years in order to apply with anyone. after i got it back.
