What do you guys do to fix or prevent the chain from having uneven tension? The length of chain that goes under the spool will be tight and rigid, but the part of the chain that attaches to the load will be a little looser than the former, no matter how much you tighten the ratchet. Prying and hitting the chain helped a few of the chains settle, but the rest aren't budging. I hope the attached picture helps

Stop running your chains across the deck like that. You are trying to pull it around too many corners and will never get it tight.

The correct way would be to run the chain direct from the load to the spools or pockets with the binder in the middle pulling in a straight line from the load to the trailer. You might have to use more binders this way but it is the correct way to secure with chains.

In general chains loosen here and there as you go down the road. The links straighten, the kinks come out as you bounce on the road. You must re tighten them during your first 2 load checks. Also you can make sure you are putting the chains on straight and not twisted.

As mentioned in post #2, always put your binders between the load and your anchor point.

I don’t use snap binders, ratchet only. After tightening I put the handle against the trailer to eliminate any loosening caused by reverse rotation, stays right and tight.

Trying to pull a chain tight around a spool doesn’t work well…..

You could try smacking the loose (or the tight) part with your winch bar to “help” the links around the corners. You’re always going to have that issue when using a chain like that, it’s a poor technique.
