Unfortunately, it is not. There is a contract saying if employee(driver) damages any of the units provided by company, he will be held liable
-
There is such a thing as illegal and unenforceable contracts/clauses. Ones that will never hold up in court. If the amount is over a few hundred dollars get an attorney.
Is an Employee Responsible for Damage to Company Property? - LegalClarity -
Unless a driver has signed a form stating he is responsible for any damage and he will pay the cost of repairs, the company cannot legally take money out of the driver's pay. This goes for anything. You even have to sign for taxes to be deducted from your pay.

Im aware of it. I would never work for one no matter how desperate I was, but I am indeed aware of it.

well it's over 8k

If I'm paying for anything, I'm paying off the invoice, not the estimate. That's all you really need to do - insist on seeing the final invoice.
That said - its not your stuff, don't pay for it. They can fire you, but that's it.hope not dumb twucker and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
And if you sign that contract and lock yourself in to the agreement, and now you want a way out?
After you sign your life away to an unfair company, you want a fair way to make them do what you consider the right thing?
Ignorance is bliss, until it bites you in the behind. -
How much unpaid work do they owe you? If less than the damage estimate, hand in the keys and walk away. You will be ahead in the long run. Then go to work for an honest company.

So are you a contractor or an employee with an employment contract?
