Just picked up a Uniden PC66A last week, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about them? Can't seem to find a manual online for it and more or less just wondering if it is a good radio?

They're a good basic radio, and they have a couple of what I consider to be essential features for a mobile CB: an RF Gain control to keep your receiver from being swamped by strong/nearby stations, and a switchable Noise Blanker to kill (or at least reduce) impulse noise, like from spark ignition systems.

The ANL should work, at least kinda, with noise of other manmade sources, including electric motor hash and such. It's a pretty solid performer. I recently took in a couple that had had the Screwdriver of Death inside them, wherein some hack had basically repaired them until they were dead by clipping the limiters and pretty much turning everything with a screw or hex slot in them. Easily fixed, and thankfully had no parts broken, so all they needed was half an hour on the bench to make them, as they say around here, "Gooder'n new."

Nothing you do will make it into a rockcrusher, so as long as you don't try to get 30 magical watts out of it you'll be okay. If it were mine, and if I weren't a tech with all this service gear, I'd just plug it in and use it. If something seems grossly out of order, send it back in to Uniden if it's new or otherwise in warranty.

Great job on that find. I always like coming across decent radios that do what they're supposed to without lots of garbage cobbled onto them.

It's essentially the same thing as an old school Cobra 25. They haven't made them for years. I agree with handlebar, don't try and squeeze every last watt of it....instead hook it to the best antenna you can, have the antenna tuned for a low swr of 1.5:1 to 2.0:1, and let it do another 20 years of service, while Bubba trucker complains about his second Galaxy radio biting the dust before it's 10 year mark.
