My granddad gave me his old cobra 138( I think from the 80's) when I first started driving, stupid me went and bought a new Galaxy 959... I spent well over $300 on the radio + setup and IMO it sucked... I quickly sold it to a buddy and put my old cobra back in.

For drivers who use the radio a lot, I understand the appeal of the 959, it just wasn't my cup of tea... Maybe I just bought a bad one, although my friend loves it.

Agreeing with your sentiment, but in point of fact the Philipines is a territory of the U.S.A. as such any product made there can be legally stamped with made in the U.S.A......

Interesting. However, Uniden isn't taking advantage of it; it says Made in Philippines on there radios.

Well my intention wasn't to argue anything extremely major, just stating a point of fact (and I know next to nothing about CBs). It does make you ponder though about which "Made in the U.S.A. products are made here stateside, which are assembled here from foreign made parts, and other loopholes to get the stamp for patriotic Americans. I am not saying to avoid products with these stamps, in fact I like to see it, I am just stating that it doesn't really count for as much as we would like to deceive ourselves about.

Good point, lonewolf. No argument here. I agree with you.

I just wanted the original poster to know that Made in USA can't be a factor in his decision, as it seemed to be, because there are none. (nor do Uniden, Cobra and the like claim/label/advertise made in USA on their CBs).

The Phillipines are not a territory of the US. They gained their independence in 1946

My Bad L.B. I knew they had declared their independance in 1946, but I rememebered hearing of their wanting to rejoin the US during 1985. I got to looking it up and found where they had tried this until a notable leader was killed. It's so much easier to keep up with history when it's ancient instead of recent lol

I think even Uniden radios are now made in China. I have a PC 68 LTW and it says China on the back of it.

I just bought myself a Uniden PC78 Elite. It says made in China.

I have a Cobra 18wx in my other car, so I wanted to try the Uniden out.

The Uniden is definitely a nicer radio, but the Cobra that I have is kind of basic, while I bought the Unider with all the bells and whistles. The Uniden came with a better mic IMO, but it is going to be upgraded with a noise cancelling one.

The downside is that the first Uniden I had was defective, would give out no signal. Even with multiple antennas. Amazon was absolutely awesome on the return, I highly recommend them. They had a great price on it too.

The second Uniden works well, but sometimes I get the 'high SWR' light on it, even though my SWR is below 1. I generally find that if that light is coming on, I turn down the mic gain for a while, and it seems to go away. I generaly run with the gain dial in the middle.
