Union history?

    i was in that SAME EXACT (447 local) union at the now defucnt...NEMF,,,,,,,NEVER asked any questions about it...

    Some companies don’t care or some companies will just throw your app in the garbage. They’ll see it. No need to ask. If you get a interviewed they don’t care. If you don’t then your app went to the garbage.

    BTW, for the record, I have no intention on trying to organize in a non-Union job. I think I'd just leave and find another job if I had serious issues with the company management I could not work out. That never was my forte to begin with. My favorite Union Duties were actually as the Recording Secretary. I liked being more behind the scenes in a support role. I was also pretty good at writing grievances and the official communication that often times went back and forth between the Union and Management. I had a good sense of the potential legal ramifications our correspondence could have and was good at ensuring legally we were OK.

    I've never been asked.

    I'm not pro or anti-union. I don't really care.

    My thought is, and always has been, that if I do my job as asked, as well as I can, and don't do anything to cost the company money, I have nothing to worry about. But, in the interview process, I'm screening potential employers just as they're screening me. And I can usually tell if a company is ############.

    I know my theory isn't fool proof. But everywhere I've worked, they begged me to stay. And those that I interviewed with begged me to work for them.

    The only union was the operating engineers union, I didn't want i it , and the company bought my book as I would not buy in. I did pay the dues, even though I took a small cut in pay and lost my benefits. That said, it had it's good and bad suits, just like any other job, and after we got another contract with more money and voted in some better benefits, I may have stayed in it if there had been enough union dirt work. I tried working i n the chemical plants and it was not my cup of tea.
    Up here in Alaska, there is a lot of union work, both teamsters and operators, but you can make more non union.
    Personally I would much rather represent myself, than have someone else do it for me any day.

    So when you say you can make more what do you include? The last year I worked I got 6 weeks paid vacation, no cost to me medical insurance, and a little over 19000.00 added to my pension with no contribution from me, also got 101000.00 in wages.

    Every type of work up here has a different contract with the teamsters, any job that has federal money in it has to pay Davis bacon wages which is the best teamsters pay plus the benefits, so you are not getting the benefits, but are getting paid them, and you don't have to get vested if not union.
    The union here at least the contract the guys hauling hot oil works under gets something like 120 a month dues, PLUS 3% of your gross salary, then you get benefits taken out. You can't possibly work enough hours in the season to keep your insurance good all year either, so you have to pay 1200 a month for a month or two every year.
    I know the union teamsters complain on dirt jobs, their take home is something like 30 bucks an hour less than mine when I drive a company truck.

    The ex-convict truck driver with the KKK and Hells Angels tattoos was working at an honest job earning an honest living, NOT committing crimes and victimizing other people.

    The snitch either didn't realize or didn't care that he was jeopardizing another person's livelihood, again, not realizing or not caring that the truck driver very likely had a family to support.

    I don't know if the bad blood ever stopped between the IAM and the Teamsters. Back about 15 years ago the Teamsters attempted to raid the IAM because they were representing the drivers and the mechanics of an Indiana based forwarding company. The raid failed.

    Wherever there is a union you will have lower profits and probable trips to bankruptcy courts

    Just say NO to unions !!!!!
