Darn, I guess this means I'm off of your Christmas card list?

I was going to offer you a job. It wouldn't be union but it would be a place to start. Maybe your little temper tantrum was for the best. It showed that you have several problems that most employers wouldn't want to deal with.
I'm not real sure you'd get along with my crew, anyway. They all know what they're doing and bad attitudes make them grumpy.

You seem to be the one with the grumpy, everything sucks attitude, man... I've have so many people helping me learn on here and your the 3rd that just wanted to throw shade on everything I said. I am positive as hell that I will be successful in all of my endeavors. I always have been...
I mentioned hauling lumber and you said "what do you want to do that for? It's hard work." I mentioned being interested in the Union and you tell me all about how they ripped you off in the 70's or 80's or when ever that was... Now you're telling me you were going to offer me a job? Ha! Ok man. Nice lead in...
Sorry I snapped on you but I can't stand it when people treat "new guys" like they are morons. I may not have any trucking experience but I do have life experience. Keep an eye out... you Christmas card is in the mail.

It's pretty easy to find out if you know who to call. Try your local.

Focus more on finding something that pays decent to make the bills and get the experience. If Nor Cal has a 2 year exp required you will be S.O.L.

All kinds of threads on brown or other union gigs.

you could make 40 - 150k + here. It all depends on how large the hub is. Right now we got a lot of people on the board sitting at home with no insurance. Times like that top rate softens the blow.

Sure top rate is appealing with all the perks to go with it. Before we had our hiring spree 3 years ago people spent many years on call. Sometimes with short weeks of work.

One thing is for sure with Union work, you're always reminded that crap flows downhill.
But as you gain seniority you'll also see it's no wonder why senior members don't want this to change.

In the long term you'll see that the 1st 20 can be brutal but the 2nd 20 can be gravy.

As a long time teamster, I find the same microcosm of workers and attitudes you find in society. Some will give an honest days work for an honest days wage and some are as useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle. Such is life.
I'd rather be known as the former.
Throughout my life I've heard all the union bashing there is to hear, but not once from a 20, 30 or 40 year member.
They are too busy enjoying off time after making a living wage during the week.

After I explored and satisfied my OTR wanderlust early, while in my 20s, I knew I needed a better game plan for the future and our security, and I believed union work offered it.
Seemed like the way if I wanted to continue driving for a living.
After the company I assumed I'd retire from was bought out and dissolved, I got on w another and started at the bottom again!
Fortunately there were many choices up north.

Now after 13 yrs of climbing the seniority ladder again, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I've set the wife and I up well for retirement. With several pensions and a 7 figure 401K all because of my choice to join a union and a bit of luck.
Now I know success in this field isn't dependent on a union.
    Quite the opposite.
The difference now is instead of just driving your truck, you have to be a jack of all trades and then some...Your wage is what the company decides or what the prevailing rates are.
I'm always surprised when I hear drivers who run 1099 say how much or how well they are paid and think how will the future be for them.

To the OP..I would endorse the choice to join early. I don't see unions in blue states going anywhere soon.

Thanks for this. I am 43 years old. I don't have 20 years to wait for it to "not suck". I love Unions and the idea if Unions but being the age I am I am looking for the highest pay as quickly as possible. I have the skills, knowledge and ideas needed to secure my retirement on my own. I am well versed in stock market functions and have the connections to build rental property's in Costa Rica and Mexico... I just need capital. Maybe Union isn't for me. I am going to work towards cryogenic and other tanker work I guess.
If I can make 100k+ a year for 6-12 years I should be all set. After 12 years in my last career I was only making about $76k while working 55-65 hours a week. That's just not going to cut it for my goals.
