I wouldn't say it's the automatic trucks. There are tow truck companies that wouldn't be in business if it weren't for Swift, Schneider, Werner and JB Hunt, CRST and CR England. I would say what started the downfall was putting in cameras and not trusting drivers. with beginner companies yes I can see why you would need a camera.

there was a company out of Wisconsin that went out of business. small trucking company that ran exclusively Volvos. They trained too. when small trucking companies are going out of business, you know something's wrong. I'm not saying anything derogatory about the owner operators on here because I give them my complete respect for staying in business as long as they possibly can. As a matter of fact there is a landstar van o/o that parks where I take my photos. he's always there 3 to 4 days and then gone a month. Maybe three weeks to a month.

It lessened the skills needed to drive, vs using a clutch. I hate clutches, and I have a 64 VW. I always dread having to stop on any sort of hill due to roll back. People get too close because almost all cars are automatic now. Although my smoky Stinger exhaust up high tends to keep people back a little.
