    Well put.
I would like to add, that it is also helpful to have the right equipment for the load you are doing. If not, then as Macavoy stated,.. be prepared to pay to have the right equipment used in order to properly load/unload your trailer.

Down in Laredo Swift brings in these Vans out of Mexico. They wont let you load them unless you have wheel straps. No chains,.. and no 4" or 2" cargo straps. E-track or wheel straps only.

I picked up 2 going to Long Island NY. When I got to the dealer in NY, they sent me to a staging yard about 1 mile away. When I got there I was breaking out my ramps. Guard asked what I was doing? I delivering these vans to you, I have another load and need these off my truck.

He tells me I am going to have to wait,.. I am not permitted to drive the vans off my trailer? WTF?!!?

Called the broker,.. Yep,.. much to my dismay,.. it was mandatory that this 1 particular tow company who had a contract with the dealer was the only person allowed to touch the vans and unload them off my trailer. Again,.. WTF?!!?

2 hrs later he finally arrives.,. through casual conversation he says his company is paid $300 per van to unload them off my trailer. He gets 30% commission. There were 2 other trucks besides me also waiting.

I'm not the smartest man in the world,.. but 6 vans @$300 each with a 30% cut. Thats $540 to the driver for maybe 1.5 hrs work. Talk about a gravy deal.

Never thought about that. I have 43' on my lower deck. I dont think I have enough room for two 20' containers and a coil. Would have to be a really small thin coil.

Both picked up in SLC,.. both delivered near Houston. IIRC, I grossed over $5.40mi. The fork lift guy was scratching his head when he saw me roll in with the coil. I knew the pipes would not be more than 20'. Looking back,. I could have turned the coil,.. still would have had overhang off the back. I flagged it,.. DOT never hassled me.

The loads I have seen have all been on flats. Now if you find something thing short and light to go on top of the containers...
