At our dock, the decks are loaded from a loading dock, and usually the deliveries are made in an open yard. But thankfully I dont have to handle building supplies it would seem! ;)

What a good idea! Thanks! :smt115

True, but the transfer loads I was speaking of require actually driving the forklift onto the trailer. I think you were referring to finger docks that load from the side.

My 2 least favorite places to go to when I was running building materials were Arzee in E. Brunswick (rude people), and Norge Builders in Paterson, NJ (better people but time consuming unloads). At Norge, you had to park on the street, they had pull a skid from the truck, run it inside and put it away.

That adds up with a 20 skid load.

Nope, we dont have 'finger docks'. We have clients that do though. At our terminal we back the deck in as if it were a dry van, and the freight is loaded by forklift from the dock. Quite an art to it actually (but you know that!)!

My worst recently was a construction site for the construction guys. They were cranky (in general) and then I showed up to make their day worse. They whined about everything, and complained about each piece as they took it off. The one thing I do like about decks... in a situation like that, I leave my strap winder in the jockey box, and slowly wind the straps up by hand. Gives me something to do, I look busy, and it helps me bite my tongue! In the end the guy thanked me, and actually all I had done was listen and let him vent off all his steam!
