A friend gets a life line cell it is a nice service. Only she cannot call canada unless she buys a refill card with international minutes as a form of top off.
Ever since 9-11 and Homeland Security was establiushed within our Government, one of the first things they started doing from day one is assuring that no one is going to buy a cell phone and then make calls to throw it away after a terrorist attack. Everything is traced.
ALL 600 million or so cell numbers in the USA are swept every 10 minutes, never mind the world. That takes a little longer.

If you cancelled sprint service, they have no obligation to give you the unlock code. If the sprint account was active, they would be more motivated to help you.
-
Plenty of phone unlocking services, give them $5 and be done with it.
Also, their is this: US carriers will now unlock your phone, thanks to law change | ZDNetrabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Does that work on blacklisted phones?
-
Works on just about every phone, doesn't have anything to do with the carrier.

Sorry about resurrecting a dead thread, but I just wanted to let Metro users know that Metro will automatically unlock your device after 180 days of continuous service. My iPhone was carrier-locked when I bought it last June. Once I updated to IOS 14 I could see this screen. Also, my phone is a model A1660 and will work on almost every network. I tested my IMEI on T-Mobile, AT&T as well as Verizon. ALL 3 came back compatible!

I think all phones are compatible with all carriers these days.
Just a matter of sim card.
I had my last Samsung unlocked with sprint and switched to att. Roughly 5 years ago. -
Not really. Sprint and AT&T use the same type of radio. Verizion and Tmobile use another type. You can freely switch between them, but cannot switch between Sprint and Verizion.
That's for voice/text. Data is all moving to the same system, just slightly different frequencies that most phones handle. -
Sprint and Verizon are CDMA. Or was.
Att and tmo were gsm.ZVar Thanks this. -
I am not up at all on the non-iPhones. I do know that Apple makes some iPhones that are either CDMA or GSM. My neighbor has one that works only with CDMA. When I changed phones I made sure my new phone would work with either system. I was just surprised that Metro unlocked it without my asking for them to do so.
