Unproductive/low paying loads

    I am going to give an example of a load I was given. It was a nonproductive/low paying load for the driver but as far as I can tell everyone else got a win out of it. Shipper got products delivered when they needed and customer got products they needed on time. CSR has a happy customer. Load planners got their job done. Dispatchers too. But the driver is covering everybody elses butts and gets screwed. Yes, I know "thats trucking".... but is there any other reason from deep in the bowels of the behind the scenes trucking inner working that this is done...or just "I'm too lazy to make this work for a driver, but my job is done"?????

    Picked up at 9am on day one. One hour after load was ready, but as soon as my hours allowed. It was an 800 mile run with a first drop at 2am on the third day, 600 miles away. Final drop was at 6pm, on third day, 200 miles away from first drop. I Drove 500 miles took 10 hour break. Got up went to drop yard and requested to drop it and get something more productive. Request denied. I am sitting 50 miles away so drove to a TS and took another 10. Delivered and drove to within 10 miles of final destination. Took another 10 went and delivered. The final load was unloaded unbelievable fast and I am empty and ready for another load. No load til morning, take another 10.

    800 miles...3.5 days. Everybodies happy but my wallet. Just trucking or ?????

    I'm sure it was a great paying load (for the Co.), but you work off miles... Lesson learned. :thumbleft:

    why didnt you refuse the load to start with. If stop one was 600 miles away i would makes sure it was a next day delivery since I can run 600 in one day.

    Sometimes it just sucks though and scheduling is bad. Nothing you can do but hope it doesnt happen often. I once got to the delivery, droped the trailer there, did 2 short loads with another trailer, then came back to deliver it to their dock so i didnt waste 2 days.

    There are some loads that just plain suck, but still need to be hauled.

    This is ultimately your DM failing you as a driver..Maybe an oversight or maybe your DM not caring OR your DM punishing you for something.

    A load can be ready days in advance of a short mileage run but attempted to be dispatched by load planners..

    If your DM is on their toes, that load never makes it to your truck..(unless you've pissed them off) I'd say your being punished or the load slipped through.. If you had a chance to refuse it..should have.. If forced dispatch? That's trucking.

    This is uncalled for.You just got ''pimped out'' from your company..I will guerentee this load paid big big money and then they toss the road whoore a few bucks....This is B/S and i would have a talk with them ASAP..

    This is trucking and that is why they want the new uneducated drivers in this business..They make a killing off the newer drivers and there lack of knowledge AND BALLS..

    Stand up for yourself and look out for #1.DO NOT allow this.You deserve much better and more money...!!!!!!!!

    This happens to the best of us the company don't care if you eat or your family eats as long as they line their pockets who cares. This is why I am going into business on my own very soon. I will be a 4th generation O/O the way my dad did his driver was hourly under 500 miles that way atleast they got a good check. He also paid mileage to work for his drivers he said people shouldn't have to pay to work. I plan on taking what I learned from past 3 generations and put it into my business.

    Change companies; that sounds like one of those mega carrier dispatches. You will never have that problem with tanker & extremely rare with flatbed.

    If you're a company driver the company calls it giving you experience. Truck on, hang in there for awhile if you can because quitting is not the solution when you're new. By the way, have you angered your dispatcher? Do you send her nice messages before and after your trips? Do you stop by and have a coffee when you're in town?
