The OP wanted to know if it is unproffessional. Just because some of us gave him our oppinion from 40+ years working, should not then be construed as being better than anyone else. I certainly am not. The old bromide though, "if you do like the answer, then don't ask the question."
Many of us have learned the hard way more than once, and wish we would have got some sage advise, or had someone... care enough to tell us what we needed to hear....Hence the oppinions being passed on, and not much appreciated. I really do not have a dog in any of these races, and these OPs are not my children, but have taken the time to give a free answer. Why, not sure...
Try going to a shrink, and getting good free advise. Not only will it cost you many frog skins, but the advice might not be any better than what is on this forum.
Remember, there was no internet 30/40 years ago to ask thousands about all these issues. If one did not get the advise from parents, you were very much on your own to figure out this thing called life....
Every decision we make, is a reflection of what we are made of. If one is amused with their own diabolical behavior, then most can pretty much predict the course that person's life will take. Even if they get a better job, they will shoot themselves in the foot at the new job, usually in a very short time, and will be driving into another companies lot trying to get....yup, you guessed it, another job..
Oh ya, that is not to mention, the mess that their personnal life is or will be in from all this "I do as I please, and no one.... is going to tell me about doing what is right...." Try staying married with that thought process. By the way, I am still, by the grace of God, married to my first wife. I was the last time home anyways....
One's name is worth more than money, but many take the low road and sell themselves cheap.....
Unprofessional?????

Again, "to each his or her own." Anytime I have had to do what I had to do, it was always for the better and after 26 years, I'd say (for myself anyway) that it has worked out for the better. Smart moves make for smart circumstances!
As far as the OP; they simply started a conversation and as anyone can see that conversation has been a good one.
Congrats on being married for all those years--I've been married to the same wonderful woman for 24 years. Still going strong! -
Congratulations to you Unfortunate Son. My wife has stayed with me for 26 now, and I have been away over half of it chasing crazy dreams.
I am not better than anyone here as stated. As a matter of fact, I was laid off from a very coveted trucking job after 6 months, when the economy went south in 1974. I got my former trucking job back right away, (I had left on good terms, and the owner had told me if I ever wanted to come back, he would be glad to have me. Never thought I would have to, but there I was, and he kept his word), and yes, I.... stopped more than once on the way through with the rig and checked in on my friends at the job I was laid off from. I did go back after 4 months.
The owner at the temparary job knew I was planning on going back, and even so, treated me great, but now that I... look back..., it was very unprofessional on my part to pull his truck and trailer into another companies lot, even just to talk to coworkers.
So, my oppinions come from my own... lack of forethought and poor behavior. I wish someone would have told me back then before I did it...
To me, it is just too easy to park at a safe location, or even a truck stop, and walk or take a taxi. How impressed would a human resorces person be if you told them you were on your off duty hours, and had walked or got a cab to come over and apply?
Anyways, I have belabored this enough.....Thanks.Unfortunate Son Thanks this. -
Thank you "Stone Express." Seems you and I have a few things in common. I (as of tomorrow morning) will be returning to a former employer/trucking company, with whom I left on good terms as well.
One phone call and seconds later I was back on the roster. And I agree with you on another point; I'm no better than anyone else either. I still, to this day, learn something new everyday. Makes it interesting.
You mentioned 1974. Man, that is a lot of years and a lot of miles! Congrats to you for that, my hat is off to you!
Keep it shiny side up and the beez off the bumper, friend. Hope we cross paths somewhere down the line.FLATBED Thanks this. -
Do what, show up in another companies trk? pattyj he offered to start ASAP as soon as he could find a place to dump the other companies truck
And any company that would assist a driver in doing this is just as worthless as the hand doing it to there old company. Colorato now if that was directed at me GO read post #12 -
I have always told my previous employers that I would get a whole lot of satisfaction when I decided to leave their company by bringing their truck back, handing them the keys and telling them why I was leaving. In my case that's exactly what I did. My new employer is 500 yards off I-95 in Va that I passed every Wednesday at 3pm on my way to Wilmington NC. I asked the new company if it was alright and was told absolutely, that drivers do it all the time. It never became an issue. I never went off route and I had the satisfaction of telling my previous company why I was leaving after 4 years.
FLATBED and Unfortunate Son Thank this. -
Yes but John your record speaks for itself , some have more jobs in 12 months than you and I likely had our whole time trucking. Today some think nothing of trashing a truck or dumping it in the middle of nowhere USA and then
if they get penalized for it , they leave COMPANY A for COMPANY B and its nothing but badmouth COMPANY A and then the same for COMPANY B when its time to jump to COMPANY C.
JohnBoy and Unfortunate Son Thank this. -
I don't think the OP meant that she was going to abandon her truck. Just to use it for transportation to a different carrier to apply for employment.
truckon Thanks this. -
I am on a run today after flying in to pick up an abandoned truck
it was lonely so I will take it home to others of its own kindtruckon Thanks this. -
