i think we can sum it up by realizing that if the truckstop is dirty then this equates to poor managment. Don't blame it on the truckers because the majority of them/us were raised right and are clean people.

    a) This further extrapolates to: If the driver is a slob, then maybe the parents didn't do such a good job----or were non-existant?

    b) Through previous janitorial/custodial experience i can confirm that slobs come in all professions/walks of life----AND GENDERS!

    c) There is no way that airports, grocery stores, and department stores (i.e., walmart) recieve less traffic than a truckstop, yet their restrooms remain cleaner than the average truckstop's. Thus confirming that poor conditions at truckstops equal poor managment.

    d) Yes, there are some inconsiderate drivers but i feel that they are actually in the minority and they themselves should not be completely to blame if the truckstop is dirty.

I agree. Infact in most cases when a truck stop lot was filthy, it was because the truckstop management either placed NO trash cans around the lot for drivers to use, OR their "maintenance" of these cans was sporadic or nonexistent. A good example of this:
I stopped at a TA for fuel one Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania on my way east. All of the trash cans at the fuel island were full and overflowing. In fact ALL the other trash cans in the parking lot were too. When I paid for my fuel, I spoke to the fuel clerk (no manager on Sunday...go figure) and complained. Three days later, I stopped on my way west. SAME THING, not only were all the trash overflowing as they were before, but the trash that had accumulated over the past three days was blowing around the parking lot.

This time I spoke to the manager. His EXCUSE for the trash was "the guy who picks up our trash left work last friday and hasn't come back to work yet". He sure didn't like what I said to him. I told him: "As a 'Manager', it is YOUR job to make sure that every body's job gets done. If they aren't there to do it, you assign someone else to do it, or you do it your self. This is unacceptable."
I used to manage the "Bonanza" restaurant in Cheyenne Wyo in 1976. I worked my way UP from "Frys and Sets" in 6 months.

I went there today for breakfast on 9/11/10 I sat down at the first entrance tables, because I was in a rush. After sitting and looking at the waitress avoid me completely for 5 minutes, as soon as two Caucasian men sat down next to me, the waitress came right out and began serving them, still never even acknowledging me... I got up and walked out, I could not believe what had just happened. I walked back in, because I was so hungry and had a long day ahead and proceeded to walk towards the back of the restaurant. As I walked past her again I let her know, you saw me sitting there, but you never bothered serving me. It's despicable to see this type of blatant racism this day and age... I know this much I will never step foot in that place again. I've been out here on the road for 24 years had this happen a few other times, but never expected it to happen here in my home state....

As a white guy, sometimes when this kind of thing happens, I think man, if I was black I would think these people are racists. And of course there are your white people that are "different," punkers, don't belong, etc. and they get discriminated against.

And many times, the solo diner will be ignored. But usually not at truck stop restaurants, because solo diners are the main customers. But I've been to other restaurants where it was hard to get served being alone while seeing a couple come in and get waited on hand and foot.

But of course there still is racism out there in some places. Sometimes, I think though it is just someone having a bad day or not paying attention, and would have done the same thing to a white guy.

I was at the Denny's in Albuquerque not long ago, though, waiting to be seated and a black guy was ahead of me. The hostess came up to me to seat me and I said the guy in front of me was first. I think that instance was racism. She said she was waiting for the waitress whose turn it was to seat him while being next, I would be her customer. So, still, who knows. But I think it was an instance of racism and that is pathetic.

Yeah, you kind of know when it's in your face. I for one hate to look at it in that way, but some times there's no other explanation. And what you did was what these other two guys should have done, but they didn't. And they weren't together, they just so happened to walk in at the same time. And sat total opposite from each other. She thought I wasn't going to say anything about it and when I did she just kinda brushed it off as like who cares, who was I type of deal. I did complain to the manager, he apologized gave me a free meal. That wasn't the point. He went and had words with her, next thing she's walking up to me apologizing. How do you even apologize for something like that after the fact... She even had the nerve to tell me that she didn't see me... I'm 5'8 190 lbs directly in front of your face... Man O Man

As a woman I get a lot of waitresses that blow me off as i sit and wait for them to wait on me.

They like you guys better cause they already know I'm not going to want to marry them.

Anyhow I wait till a guy comes in and they run to that table.

Then I say at a very loud tone, that I was there for ten minutes before this customer came in, and I would really appreciate being taking care of first.

They probably spit in my food, you know!!!

Being a White guy myself... And the fact that I've been in that Petro in Bordentown 100's of times... I'm gonna have to call BS on your claim of racism taking place in that resturant. I say this because from what I've seen is that around 60% of their clientel is from the black race.

It is possible that the waitress didn't see you... It is also possible that they could have been doing a shift swap & the waitress could of thought that you were already served on the previous shift & you were just hanging out... It is also possible that you have no patience.... 5 minute waiting isn't a very long time at all.

I had a situation occur at the Petro at York, NE. a few months ago. I stopped to get breakfast and sat in the booth for about 15 minutes waiting for the waitress that was at the table next to mine talking to a couple of guys to come over.

I finally had to interrupt her and ask to be served! So she came over and with an attitude took our order.

About 30 minutes later we were wondering where our food was and this ##### says..."Oh, I forgot to turn in your order."
I asked for the manager and she said that he wasn't there...So I took out my phone and called the Petro and asked for the manager...He walked over to the phone and answered it and I said "Turn around, I'm sitting right behind you!" He came over and asked me why I called him on the phone and I told him what had happened...He Offered to give us a free breakfast and called the waitress aside and they had a talk...The next time I saw her she was walking out the front door!

When I was leaving he told me that he terminated her! I don't know if he did or not because I haven't been back there since.
