I have posted several times on here. I am about 2 1/2 months into my trucking career. Starting out was awful. Cried, homesick, and just wanting to be back home w my wife and kids. Now I still want to be home but it's a lil easier but still have a goal of getting a local job. I live in Cleveland TN. I know a lot of places require at least 6 months to a year exp and I understand that. I lost all my previous emails but does anyone know or can give me some advice on looking for a good local company in my area? The company I am with is great but being OTR is not my plan and not for me long term due to my family. I drove in the US Army as well but hopefully some of you guys out there can give me some pointers. Thanks and stay safe and god bless

While you are gaining you experience, be proactive about finding your local job. Make an account on the Tennessee Job Service website. Keep an eye out for local jobs in your area and apply online. Look into what Cleveland Tennessee factories need class B drivers also. Look at places like Coke or local distributors. Have your wife read the local papers too. Cleveland is a busy area, you will find something that gets you home, but in the meantime, be serious about the company you are working for. They gave you a chance and you are accepting their pay. When the right opportunity comes, grab it. Just don't rush it. Good luck to you.

I merged your 3 threads, there is no reason for multiple threads on the same subject all over the forum.

Concentrate on the job you have now for the 6 months to 1 year EXPERIENCE you need before you screw something up and it hampers your future with ANY trucking company. As the above posts noted check the local want ads and even CRAIGS LIST as they do have good jobs on there at times.

Pretend it's like a 6 month deployment and truck on driver.

You should be able to get a job that delivers to retail, meaning manual work, with 6months experience. Food service companies almost always need drivers can pay good w/benefits. Look at the day cabs pulling trailers with roll up doors in back that are around Cleveland. I delivered tires for 7 years I was out 3 nights a week off week end and holidays and it paid good. Now I pull a flatbed and am home every night and off week ends and holidays but it takes two years experience to get this job. If you find someplace you want to work you can talk to them and stay in touch until you have the required experience. It is worth taking a lone time to get a great job that suits your lifestyle and monetary requirements. Just take are and do the job you have now the way it needs to be done.

Try yrc. They will train you with no experience. They aren't very stable as of now but if they train you and your local it's good to start out then move on
