Sammy, This will all depend on what company you go to work for. With Crete, I had 2 trainers and one just sat in the passenger seat and offered criticism, and the other really helped me, particularly with backing. My tests that I have taken after orientation, was pre trip, hooking, driving, city and freeway, and then backing, some backing was just straight line, and others required an alley dock. Keep in mind backing is a HUGE part of trucking, you WILL do it almost every day. So while with a trainer, ask him for advice and hopefully he will do like my second trainer with Crete did, we pulled into a truck stop that was nearly empty and he had me back and pull out, back into another spot, pull out and do it again, all the while he was out side giving direction and watching every move I made.
Good luck to you and hope all works out for you. -
Yes you will back, there is an un-failable written test, and feel free to goal, just don't HIT anything.
The upgrade test is easier than the dmv test, but you wont necessarily get another shot if you fail, so do your best. -
so if you fail they just kick you to the curve and thats it? thats harsh but i think with 200 hours of driving and with all the backing it wont be so hard. is the backing exam set up with cones? is it just straight backing or is it more than just that. i cannot do offset or parallel park

they will have you back into a spot either at a truck stop or the yard. The won't necessarily give you the boot if you fail, but if you had other problems (lake an accident in training) the will take the opportunity to get rid of you. It's really not anything to be worried about. I was all stressed, did some of my worst driving ever and still passed.
jomar68 Thanks this.
