My RandMcnally does great. I wont trust ol Tom completely (I use Toms voice on it) but he helps out. Remember one thing when using a GPS (in addition to that already mentioned...) NOT all roads will be picked up... Private roads usually arent on there. I know of atleast 2 places Ive picked up on the Flatbed side that werent picked up by the GPS. Had to find them the old fashioned way

Hey! I don't get to point out stuff in your posts often, DTB. You're one pretty squared away Brat, if you don't mind my saying so, so when I get the chance, I grab it! Neener neener! :biggrin_25526:

Well I plan to use GPS, an Atlas, and Qualcomm directions to make sure everything matches up. I know u cant rely solely on GPS but its a very good aid. I checked out the site Denali Dad posted and they do have the RandMcNally 500 for $129 ($399 at truckstops) and the RandMcNally 700 for $199 ($459 at truckstops) so I will be ordering mine thru that site. Thanks DD! U just saved me a LOT of money! My first instructor relied on GPS and the Qualcomm, my second instructor had an Atlas and used the Qualcomm, and my trainer uses all three. I prefer using all three. The GPS is good mainly for street directions once u are near the shipper/reciever and to avoid low clearances. I hope to buy a GPS soon because I should be back in Springfield to upgrade by next weekend (YES!!!!!!!!!) and picking out my truck the following weekend. 27,196 miles down and 1 1/2 loads to go!

Match up macro 19 to mapquest or google earth. Route to the nearest intersection that the GPS knows about.

DTM: RM500/RM700 are the old discontinued models... you may be getting something that was refurbished. The "truckstop" prices you quoted match what I've seen for the current RM510/RM710 models.
