    I have a 2021 brand new T880 dump w x-15 "productivity" 565 @1850 tq..
2 drop axles, air suspension, lift. so there is LOTS of air being used compressor barley keep up.
has the smallest @ about 18 cfm. and take forever to till all the tanks./ airbags

We want to "upgrade" already to the 2 cyl. 34ish cfm compressor.

Found a great deal on the 2 cyl unit and only need a few smaller support items
    SUPPORT, AIR COMPRESSOR
    CAP SCREW, HEX FLANGE HEAD
    SCREW, HEX FLANGE HEAD UNKNOWN
    ELBOW, MALE UNION

is this as "simple " as swapping the parts,
    what all is involved?
    time estimate?
    THANKS!!

Never did exactly that but many compressors are very interchangeable. As long as the supplier has the correct mounting flange and drive. Does yours also drive something off the back like a P/S pump? That also must have the correct mounting.
Normal compressor replacement would be under 4 hours. Mr Wiz might get ur done in 2. Your coolant and air connections will be different. Hope to finish it in a day.

Being the-productivity version it may be controlled by ecm for fuel savings . If so maybe dealer can reprogram it better for your application .it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Wow! Never even knew some compressor operation could be ECM connected.

I have a 2021 with same engine and specs..Mine came with the “Heavy duty” compressor. All I can say is, it’s impressive.

Sadly, the upgrade is only $100...

Try bringing it back to the dealership and see if they can pull some strings for you to have it swapped out...that’s where I’d start.

Cummins air compressor isnt ecm controlled.
The most I have seen for air compressor ecm interaction is on the MX13 epa 17, when the air compressor starts pumping the water pump goes into full speed.

Talk to the dealer you bought it from and they should be able to look up the larger air compressor option and let you know all the parts required. Different support brackets on the larger compressors and different plumbing.

Did you order the truck or was the truck ordered by the dealer and you bought it “ off the lot”? Were the lift axles factory installed or dealer installed?
Either way I’d say the dealer screwed up and you should get them to help pay for the modification.
If you worked with a salesperson to spec/order, or if the dealer ordered the truck as a “stock” truck they should have been experienced enough to know the application that the truck was headed for and they obviously were’nt. They sold you a truck that is unsafe on the road.
The dealer needs to work with you on a satisfactory outcome.

If you watch any Peterbilt Steve videos that @Cat sdp posts, Steve specs most all of his X15's with the larger CFM air compressors.

thanks for all your fast responses....
The dealer told me that I CANNOT UPGRADE the compressor as it is "specific" to the engine.
