My favorite is when they have you take classes and watch video's on precisely how many steps it should take you to get in and out of the package cars! I forgot to mention I worked for them for a short period of time before I was hired full-time by another union outfit. The guy I started with has been there 10 years. They told us when we started that within 2 yrs. max we would be full-time. They work him around being full time now. Everytime he approaches full-time contract hrs hrs. where he gets full-time benefits cause he worked the hrs considered full-time by union they lay him off and go to the next senior part-timer. Its sad that most good paying outfits are going this way and require 10 yrs just for a chance to make a decent wage.

You need to be around 18-20 yrs old max when you start for UPS around here. By the time you get to package you will be around 30 and your body will still be young enough to handle the rigors of the job. There are exceptions, but this is generally the way I see it around here.

Our democracy is great. It's too bad that in order to be a good union member you have to participate in "Occupy Wall Street" and other like pro democrat protests. Democrats love your type. The more people that live off the government tit the more power they have ie "Obama Care". I respect our democracy and small government. Big government, anti business, anti american exceptionalism, and creating conflict between different economic social classes to create more power for ones self is horrible. Next you'll call me prejudice. Just keep watching your MSNBC while the rest of us work for a living instead of coming up with excuses and blaming President Bush.

Oh boy well you guys started it. Though I'm more republican than anything else, Bush does not get off the hook. He enriched the pockets of his cronies and friends while in office, like every politician. 700b for tarp rememeber, too big to fail right? two wars where halliburton and the likes have bilked this country for over a trillion dollars. I'm a veteran of both wars so I see the waste that has taken place. Bush is no innocent president by any means. People need to stop this republican/democratic ########. It is the division politicians relish. Those democrats/repubs are a two headed dog eating from the same trough.

Same people put on fundraisers for members on both sides of the aisle.

Everyone wants to argue that capitalism is the answer to all of America's problems, but I just don't see it. When I think of capitalism, I immediately think of the oil corporations like Exxon-Mobil and BP. These corporations are so big and have so much power they control how much of our hard earned money is spent on fuel.

America is consuming less fuel than it did 10 years ago, but the surplus of oil we now have is being sold overseas to other countries like China and India. We have traders on Wall St. that drive up the price of oil and then it is shipped overseas! The more we drill, the more oil will be piped down the coast and sold overseas. Of course the oil companies want us to believe this is the answer so they can drill on government lands and continue to profit at the expense of Americans!

The only way Republicans can lower the cost of fuel is to implement gov't control of trading and exporting of our oil and that is socialism at its finest!

Wall St. wanted loose gov't control over trading too until the #### hit the fan and then they wanted gov't to bail them out!

IMO, capitilism is great until you have corporations that are so big they control what we pay and suck up all the smaller businesses... then we are controlled by big businesses instead of the govt which if far worse! They could give 2 ##### whether we starve to death or not as long as they keep making investers happy!

Capitalism in the present form has been a complete failure for the working class. Oh, it has been a gold mine for the wealthy.

Big pet-peeve of mine. The US is NOT a democracy. It's a republic with a representative democracy. Big difference.

Also, you guys have a vague conception about UPS and the rest of the mail parcel business. It's far from slave labor. If the conditions are that terrible, then maybe someone can tell me why UPS, Fedex and the Post Office have a next to nothing turnover rate.

FedEx ground has a huge turnover rate for regular drivers, not the contractors

Not that I'm calling you out, but I doubt this. Every Fedex ground driver I met liked their job (I drive for the Post Office so I've met quite a few of them in my time).

I load and unload my truck for a higher wage, so does that make me a scab? :biggrin_2556:

For 40 bucks a hour I'll unload any truck they want.
