It depends on the terminal you apply at. At my terminal, I never had to work the dock. My terminal is kind of its own universe within UPS, though.

Did you just apply online or did you walk in in person and directly speak with someone? I don’t see any feeder positions in my area. Also did you see the job on indeed or their website?

You have to go to the UPS website to apply. What they are listed as are "tractor trailer" positions with UPS at the chosen facility.

If you apply at a terminal that hires feeder drivers off the street, you may have to do seasonal work before you get hired full time. I had to do that myself. It's nerve-wracking. You feel the weight of your entire career on the line. But when you get in, it's amazing.

The blessing is that I’m a disabled vet so I will be able to survive and hopefully be able to pick up another part time driving gig in between time. It’s definitely worth the wait from what I hear

I'm midway through my second year, and I'm already back making roughly what I was at ABF. Maybe a little bit less, but not enough that I notice.

I'm also doing that in 5 days per week versus the 6 I had to work there. So... I will take this all day over that lifestyle.

Yes I would like to do that myself in all honesty. A 5 day work week that I can support my family on and see them daily is a dream. Haven’t been able to enjoy my wife and children since we were married like I’d like to. I was a firefighter in the Airforce and deployed often and worked 48 hour shifts and 24 hour shifts as well. Now I’m running pretty much OTR/ regional lol. My day will come though. I want to stay with TMC for atleast a year because I don’t want to ruin my career by job hopping.

UPS requires two years experience. So keep that in mind.

Wow I didn’t know that. I will definitely keep that in mind. I thought about trying old dominion freight line once I get a year. RL carriers said they would take me but I would have to do night line haul. Not really wanting to do that so I will stay out for the moment.

Oh, then UPS may not be a good fit for you. A lot of our feeder work happens at night.

Oh I thought they did feeder in daytime. I definitely didn’t know that. Yeah I’d definitely like to have a normal life schedule and be home during the evening to eat dinner with my family. Guess only time will tell
