Why does that seem excessive? Run of the mill power only options are almost always cheaper than loads where you bring your own trailer into it. But these holiday Amazon power only loads - if you're not one of those unfortunate carriers locked in on predictable steady low rates - can be very lucrative as long as you don't allow yourself to be taken advantage of.

I heard rates are down 20 cents a mile this year for people who want to lock into steady consistent stuff. They were ridiculously cheap last year and the year before. I'm glad I don't get any of those emails clogging up my inbox.

As always your best money here is going to be the last minute broker searching for a truck and you setting the rate. Trucks are scarce this year so don't be a timid cheap *** afraid to quote some nice profit on these.

What they normally do is round trips. If you're quoting less than $5 a mile one way they're going to love you. So knock yourself out and keep in mind that's on the low end on longer solo hauls 500-700 miles - they have much deeper pockets than that. And it's a lot more than that on short quick trips.

They have you take a loaded trailer from one DC to another DC then you drop the loaded trailer and grab an empty that you take back empty to the original DC. You can grab a load back if you want and double up on your money. Some brokers tell you this but most don't. I would imagine they would say no you can't do that if you asked. So don't ask just do it. Talking with your coyote rep might be a good idea as is posting yourself up as power only.

Thanks for the info! I'e been a driver for three years, and just now venturing out. I picked this time of the year on purpose. Do you know what broker or Brokers deal with Amazon loads during the holiday season for drop and hook?

Typically, yes. We do flatbed, which pays a bit more on average than dry van. It costs us the same to rent one or the other.

Coyote, XPO, CHRW, TQL, USXpress, Covenant, Hub Group all of these and probably some smaller players too. You'll have to find the actual contacts at these places who deal with this freight. I always just post up and let them come to me.
