Another thing UPS will do is have you go through an exhaustive application process and then, at the end, state that no interview appointments are available. Ten months later a recruiter will call in desperation to see if there's interest in holiday temp because now they need somebody.

I have literally worked there my whole life (started on the preload at 17) and was a shop steward for 15 years so there isn't a whole lot I don't know about the place lol. That's why I get all chuckled up when guys on here tell me how it is that have never worked there or are a street hire that's been there for a year or two.LtlAnonymous, truckdriver31, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this.

My "fos" thought was more of a "I can't believe the union didn't/wouldn't negotiate that" for it's members, not really against you lol.LtlAnonymous, MACK E-6 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

UPS owns the teamsters. Two contracts ago we never voted for that contract in my local and three others. Worked without a contract for a year and then they just forced us in.LtlAnonymous, BigDog Trucker, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this.

And judging by the last contract negotiation with UPSF, even if they get enough resistance from the union members, UPSF was fully prepared to starve them all into a "yes" vote.LtlAnonymous, De Trucker, Bob Dobalina and 2 others Thank this.

I thought I would add that's since they are hiring from the lawnside building but that building is the ####### child of UPS. I was directly affected by that building as a package car driver and we get held up late 3 days a week because the lawnside trailer couldn't make it in on time because it was so poorly ran over there they couldn't get the trailer loaded find out the door on time. Just a little food for thought
LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
I doubt they'd ever empty out the package system like they did at Freight, though. That would affect the entire global economy, not just the company. And nobody else could pick up the slack. That would be a massive mess. I bet the government would step in. File it under national security or something.LtlAnonymous, USMC 3531 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

In addition to that, let's not forget what happened the last time UPS went on strike in 1997, I have never read or been able to find any where if it ever actually had anything to do with it, but the timing sure was coincidental, it was after that strike that Federal Express started making all their moves, and the FDX corporation with it's different divisions would be formed.LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

And even then they were put back to work by bill Clinton like Doctor @Bob Dobalina said. I wasn't there for it but being hired on shortly after I got all the stories while they were still pretty fresh.Bob Dobalina, LtlAnonymous and USMC 3531 Thank this.

I remember it well, I was with my first job in this freight business stuff, a small time California outfit called WPX, I worked in the warehouse sorting and drove a bobtail handling freight deliveries and pickups, their main accounts were Amway,Boise Cascade, Hon, Barnes and Noble, Disney Store, Andersen Merchandise, mainly heavy PITA office and book stuff which in my opinion qualified as LTL, but they as a parcel company handled it, that strike period was a mess though, our volume went up during that time, and the majority of our pickups wanted us to take more, but we could only do so much, yes everyone found out how much of a impact big brown had on the industry.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
