Do you work for the post office it's self or a contractor? I've seen some of the trailers postal contractors use and some of there equipment, especially the trailers lets just say nobody is on the cutting edge when it comes to trailer technology for moving mail. More or less on the cutting edge of low technology. Yeah even the Post Office it's self has some rough equipment. I know Daniel says that they have some older very high millage equipment over at Sodrel.

Well....RR did say we can high jack again...haha.
Yeah, that's where I'm currently working now. I'm a USPS driver, and federal employee, and we can't really discuss things pulicly due to confidentiality clause. I can only mention things that are known publicly. That's why I had to change my name and delete a lot of my old posts, because TECHNICALLY I can go to jail for giving out government secrets.
UPS, USPS, and Fed Ex TECHNICALLY can't share inside trade secrets, even though we ALL use each others services one way or anouther. But yeah, we drive automatic Macks from the early 2000 models.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Really all the Macks the Post Office has are Autos?
Let alone from the early 2000s gosh auto's I thought didn't really come around until about 5-6 years ago. Wow early 2000s Auto's those must be pretty rough.Sho Nuff Thanks this. -
Yeah, I think they range from around 2003-2006, all DOT exempt. We got single and twin screws and cabovers as welI.
Man......I think I got more posts on here than the OP.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Forgive my ignorance what does that mean DOT exempt?Sho Nuff Thanks this.

Now TECHNICALLY I'm not suppose to give this information out, but this question has been answered on other threads, so I have to pick and choose my answers wisely, but in a nutshell, DOT and the police won't touch us.Mike2633 Thanks this.

I'm pretty sure whenever you switched over to the docks, it got deducted automatically by a dollar. You either had to hit the P&D button or the dock button first before clocking in, whenever you switched over. I can't remember if their was a button for linehaul.Mike2633 Thanks this.

Like i said, i am liking this gig A LOT----except for the nightime hours. And anyone thinking of doing linehaul or IS ON linehaul now really needs to think about this aspect. The hours and sleep are i think the most important aspect of the job. And if you don't get enough sleep it's just not going to work.
We unfortunately lost a driver this Tuesday. Chicago area.
i think i will switch back to daytime P+D and take the lower pay, annoying customers etc. The new bid comes up in less than a month and i probably won't keep it anyways as i'm low on seniority. But i'm not really complaining.Last edited: May 15, 2016

How does switching boards affect your bidding seniority? Some places you lose it altogether and go to the bottom, other places you go to the bottom for a year or whatever and then fall back into place. I know it really doesn't matter for a newer driver, but it's nice if a veteran wants a change and switches boards that they don't punish you forever for it.

This is a good question, i am not exactly sure how that would work. i DO know that if you transfer to another terminal, you go to the bottom.
However, for transferring from local to road and vice-versa i THINK, (but am not sure) it would go like this:
Come bidding time (every 6 months here) someone with higher seniority than me at the terminal can outbid me on the run that i am on now. i now would "have" to go back to the city. HOWEVER, IF another road run opens up, i have first dibs on it compared to anyone on the city board even if they have more company seniority than me because i'm on the road board, which i guess is considered separate from the city board?
Again, not sure if that's how it works, but this is a good question that i need to find out.Mike2633 Thanks this.
