Getting there....

i have to say that i did work 6 days (technically 7) and i did stay in the hotel twice this week. i think i had like 3 mins left on my 70hr limit this week. Felt zombied-out and felt like i was underwater and the end of the week. i think i will scale down.
i stayed in the hotel because i simply ran out of hours on night. And then the second night, i was having tractor problems. So, going home would be very risky---was right on the line for running out of hours; IF traffic was ok AND the tractor could make it back, then i would have made it. IF i had the shop take care of it and then tried to go home i wouldn't have the hours. Plus i was just tired anyways, so i decided to just go to the hotel.
Normally, i average staying in a hotel maybe once every two weeks when i 'm doing extra-board.
Other complaints in an otherwise incredible job, in my opinion:
1) Estrogen poisoning, in certain terminals:
If you don't mind being spoken to like a little kid and having certain "managers" talk to you like they're your mommy, then you'll be just fine. Now, why do they do this? Is it so they can feel power? Do they feel like they MUST talk like this or else no-one will take them seriously? i will address these concerns and the subject of estrogen poisoning in the workplace when there is more time. (NOTE: Not all female managers are like this, actually just a small % are.)
2) Fuel tanks too #### small:
We have to fill up everynight. We don't haul heavy in LTL (usually). So why not order trucks with larger tanks? Average weight, i think, is about 8000 per trailer. Usually 2 trailers. And lots of empty trailers.
Good points in an incredible job in my opinion.
Still having a blast, making i think good money with good benefits. -
Averaging a little over 5k a month putting in 60-70 hours a week. Ooof.
Ups is a mutli-culti outfit. They celebrate 'diversity', including homosexuality and female empowerment. Its to be expected that they put women who are on power trips in management positions so they can lead these men by the nose and tell em whats what. Just heard the new TM at my old terminal is a woman. The first thing I thought when I heard that is a lot of guys are gonna get written up for cursing and telling lewd jokes. Its a complete joke.Last edited: Feb 23, 2019

He never said he puts in 70 hours a week. Just this week. And he still has two weeks left in the month and is at 10k gross. So your 5k a month figure is a little off.
But you must have better checks than him, so as Russian Rabbit would say, post yo check! And show us what a real paycheck looks like.Bob Dobalina and dwells40 Thank this. -
Thank the Lord Almighty you have ups. Not only do you not understand the ups freight contract, but now youre chiming in on this, too. I said 60-70 hours a week, doofus.
I would post my check, but its nothing special. Just something to pay my bills with. I'll put up a check a year from now after I've been in the union for a year, on a 40 hour week and normal schedule. Lets see who comes out better.Last edited: Feb 23, 2019

He never said he works 60-70 hours a week either.
As for the UPS Freight contract, I understand it just fine buddy. I interpret it the same as pretty much everyone else with the exception of you...the trucker with less than a year under his belt who is an expert. You have your own special way of interpreting the contract. And when I say special I mean special
As for your check after a year....who are you kidding. After a year you'll be starting your 7th job. You'll probably be at swift by then. Or have left the industry all together.

You know how I know that you dont understand how the freight contract works? 1. You work at parcel. 2. You think freight drivers get COLA like the parcel guys do.
You used the COLA increases as your reasoning for why there is no two tier in place at freight. The fact is that there are NO COLA increases in the freight contract, unlike what parcel guys have.
I will always maintain my CDL and dot card. But yep, I'm getting out of trucking to go in the trades union starting this spring. And I figure if theres ever long stretches that I'm laid off, I can go run dump truck to fill in the gaps. But from what guys in the trade have already told me, as long as youre a good worker, its not going to be hard to have steady year round work. The future looks bright bro!
And for youre info, Im only on my 3rd gig right now in the past year. Hey, there aint nothing wrong with me trying to find my spot in this industry. But just think, if I was scared to leave big brown like a lot of you guys are, I'd have never increased my skill set or gone to apply at the trade unions!!! Instead, I'd still be miserable locked in a ups prison cell all day pushing their freight for a weak paycheck negotiated by the 'strong' union that backstabs its members!Last edited: Feb 24, 2019

You'll leave the trades too. You don't like to work and earn your keep. You will have to go thru progression there too. And the first 4-5 years you'll be an apprentice being messed with and jokes played on you. You'll walk away from it and never come back I guarantee it!
As for the the cost of living adjustments in the freight contract...there is definitely raises. But I'm not gonna argue with you about it. I'm thinking you have the IQ of a rock and there is no talking sense into you. -
You should say your prayers everyday that you have ups...bro. Make sure you hold onto that company with all your life and never let it go!
And you dont know squat about me and hard work. The fact that I can recognize when a company takes advantage of workers annoys you, I reckon. And to that, I say I dont give two fks.
And reference where COLA increases are in the freight contract. (Hint, you won't be able to.)Last edited: Feb 24, 2019
