UPS Package Delivery Driver

Being a driver helper a hand full of times during peak season. It was always management calling the drivers on how they never had their seatbuckle in before they started the truck, or how they weren't keeping up the pace with delivering packages. At our location drivers have 10-15 seconds to locate a package to deliver. And if you reach the time frame without finding it, it's a possible writeup

It's a horrible company to work for, you destroy your body as a delivery guy, but they have great pay and benefits for putting up with their non-stop ########.

 

Do the loaders have any responsibility for that? What if the driver has a beef with one of the loaders, and the loader puts the packages in the truck all EFFED UP?? That kind of thing must happen? No?

 

I think ups has become so desperate for warehouse workers that you can walk in and get to work the same day. Thats the same as a contractor that used to go to a home depot in AZ and pick up a truck full of illegals for a days worth of work. So theyre not exactly hiring the highest caliber of worker to sort and load those trucks I'd say.

Every employer in the country has the problem. The younger generation won't work.

 

Worked for the brown for nearly a year in 92 or so.
Got on as a fulltime temporary in September and was hired fulltime after they kept me on past the 1st of the year.
Left mostly because the ratio of management to rank and file was about 5 to 1..and they were a real pia.
Never did package just feeder work but they kept you working every minute.
Found a private carrier gig across the street w a more laid back environment.
Sometimes wish I'd have stayed cause at near 30 yrs I would have a better pension than the ones I've got coming but I had to face the fact that I wasn't a freight hauler, seeing the same coke can night after night.

Yes package will break you. That's why most feeder drivers are ex package that couldn't take it any longer.

 

Well I had my doubts anyways, but I think thread confirmed them.

 

Blame that on the welfare nanny state.

 

I did the same job (courier) for Fedex for 15 years before I got in a tractor. I worked for Fedex back when there was just one company, Federal Express. It's young man's work.

You don't have to worry about working 60 hours though, you'll work 70. Nowadays these #### companies want you to work Easter Sunday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. I wouldn't go back to it for $100 per hour but it was a great job back in the 90's when I was young.

Eat whatever you want, never exercise, and you're still in great shape. You literally run all day long.

Oh, and you'll never get any decent time off because the senior employees will get all the good days around holidays, best times of summer, etc. Took me 10 years to start getting a vacation I could take with my family in the summer. Still pissed about that.

 

Or the younger generation won’t work for the non living wages we did.
