South Florida is a unique creature. The driver shortages experienced in the rest of the country dont seem to apply there. I had a phone interview with an LTL company and the terminal manager told me straight up that the last 4 vacancies he had were filled by drivers transferring from other states.
All the nuts roll downhill to Florida.

Yep we had a driver transfer to fort Myers he loved it expect he took a two dollar an hour pay cut and couldn't find a affordable house so he transferred backRedtwin Thanks this.

The abundance of drivers down there leads to lower pay.coastietruckin' and Cardfan89 Thank this.

Small trade off for living in florida I reckon. Plus theres no income tax down there, so it equals out.Redtwin Thanks this.

I just looked at a tractor trailer driver posting and didn't see any prior driving experience as a requirement. Do they hire newbies out of school with a fresh CDL. Also, I was wondering if it would matter and increase the chances of getting hired, but I have a clean Class C driving record. No accidents/tickets etc for over 10 years. Thanks

I would be very surprised if they would hire just out of school.
Give it a shot what ya got to loose. I do know if you are in a small relay yard area that the rules tend to change.389Trucker Thanks this. -
It depends on the type of yard you work for. Some yards will hire feeders off the street, and others will require package car experience, sometimes a lot of it, before they will hire you for feeder.389Trucker Thanks this.

Does anyone know a contact with UPS here in Illinois? Because of a knee injury I'm training on an automatic. I have my CLP w/ endorsements Hazmat, Tanker and Triple/doubles. I had to withdraw from Progressive in Chicago, because the double clutching/manual was aggravating an old injury, so, I'm well with my outcomes. I'm 53 and new to the trucking profession, and I did find an 5 wk Apprentice Program in Indianapolis that train on autos, so thats good for me. Please advise regarding the UPS, FedEx contact, I much appreciate it. Additionally, if theres a company recommended, please share.
Thanks
