Money is nice, but one can only put up with so much BS before it becomes unbearable.

Agreed but when you find a job with zero BS, let me know. For the most part if you show up and do what they ask you to do, they leave you alone. There is always some turd who can’t do that and this is usually who gets the BS. I left strictly because I wanted to be home for dinner several nights a week without getting up at 0100 or going in at 2100. If a guy can get use to night work, it’s a great gig. I doubt a brand new man at OD will be working a 9-5 mon-fri. Freight moves at night and weekends, been there and done that also.

But everyone doesn't have 7-8 years or more, to get a regular route, and have some sanity.

Pick your poison. Do you really think any good job will either? I assume that OD runs a seniority system of some kind. I can’t imagine a driver who has been there for 20 years getting bumped off his job by a brand new driver. Life isn’t always fair, so do what works best for you. I work for myself now and most days it is great. Then some days something will up and bite me right in the as@, but I pick myself up and move on.

"My poison" would not be UPS. I have BS where I work, but no where near some of the BS I hear about over there.

Like I already said, some people are better suited elsewhere. That is the great thing about living in a free society, we get to choose what suits us best. You may have the best job in the world for you. It may suck for me or the next guy. Either way it is ok because you and I both have the choice. When money was no longer my number one priority and schedule was. I bailed on UPS. Now I make double my UPS pay and have the best schedule in trucking, but it didn’t happen overnight. Who would have thought it was possible, I did and so did my wife after some convincing.
The gist of my comment on “pick your poison” was this. If someone wants a great job, there is going to be some trade off no matter what job it is. You may have to go to school for many years to get an education or trade. You may have to start at the bottom of the board on a terrible start time and work your way up. You may have to start on a progressive pay scale and work to top pay. But you are not going to start at the top. If you did please let me know where you work.

What is the major provlem that most UPS drivers gotta deal with? I always see city drivers on the road really late though.

UPS is a 24/7/365 operation so this is to be expected. Too many hours in a day is a common issue, but with some seniority you normally you didn’t get forced on it unless nobody else was available. This is great if you are young and want to get rich quick, but at 0400 after a 12 hour day I was ready to go home to bed and not run a trailer across town. Thankfully most of the time OT was voluntary so it usually wasn’t a problem. They would ask you to work extra when you get done with your run, which would be an hour or two of OT. IF you didn’t want to do it there normally was someone below you who wanted it. OT is never in short supply. I choose to bid the on call board after I got some seniority. After 34 you were forced back at it again unless you were covering a vacation for the week. Get off Saturday at 0500 and dispatch at 1500 Sunday. Not much of a weekend on those weeks, but they didn’t see any issues with that. Thanks to the growth of internet business UPS, FedEx and the USPS has all the work they can handle. In their defense the work has to be covered or the customer will find another carrier who will cover it. Therefore you step up to the plate and cover all the work until you do like me when I decided I wanted my life back. That said I still respect UPS as a great company, but am glad I no longer have to work that many hours. It is not for everyone, but most people who hire in there don’t leave until they retire.

I agree... OD is in the old Watkins Motor Line Terminal I drove out of, ( Romulus MI ) way back when. The drivers I meet, as I park and fuel in same general area as their terminal, seem more relaxed...and happy.

Relax, Brother. I'm not trying to encroach on the Brotherhood. Personally, every time I see that picture of Jimmy Hoffa at my local union hall I get weak in the knees thinking about the sacrifice He made for us when he was whisked away and thrown into the ocean with a cinderblock round his neck. He died for your sins, my sins, and our pension. Can you front me about $1800?
