Work like a slave? Lol I grossed just under $3000 last week for 4 days and I'm only on my 3rd year going on 4. So I'm not even at top rate hourly yet. If you call that working like a slave being a slave ain't so bad! ;)

If you dont mind me asking, how old are you? And youre feeder or freight? If youre freight, there is no way you grossed that much. Im even having a hard time believing you grossed that with 4 days on feeder. If you did 14 a day, times 4 days, thats 56 hours. And whatd you say? Youre in 3rd yr pay progression? Youre not even making 30 an hour yet. So howd you gross 3k for 4 days?

What runs does UPS parcel drivers usually have? Just driving from one hub to another or you guys have meet runs as well?

Ok. I only ask bc the you ger guys starting out have a great opportunity. Most dont have a wife or kids and can work the shi##y schedule. Older guys cant really swing that as much, unless they dont really have anything tying them down at home. Howd you gross 3k last week? You work thanksgiving?

We have both meets and hub runs.
At my hub we operate just like LTL. We have "linehaul" and "city" drivers.

I run road/linehaul. We have hourly runs that include multi stops to one stop.
We have mileage runs up to 650 miles.
    Very similar to LTL.

I have a wife and two kids. She was supportive and we did what we had to to make it work.

I don't work weekend except peak so I spend time with the family on weekends and even some weekdays.

She also works and makes $60k. So that helped financially the first two years. Although my lowest gross for the year was my first which was $46k.

But there were sacrifices for this job. Well worth it for me and my family. We are very well taken care of because of it.

I did not work Thanksgiving. I worked the day after which is also a holiday for us. So I got holiday pay for that day.

Good for you dude. Always helps to have a good support system. Im freshly single from divorce, and I had a chance to go feeder back in Spetember. But I found out how that work schedule goes for the first 10 or 15 yrs until you get decent seniority and I said no thanks lol. Thats not really conducive for me meeting another girl or spending time with my daughter during the week. I talked to quite a few guys who started with ups when they were 21, 22, 23, and now they have 30 years seniority and still have another 10 to go. Crazy. The money is just too good and once you get a cake bid, you aint goin nowhere. The 100k is there, but to me, sacrificing the nights and all that aint worth it. In all honesty, Id rather be otr then do a job like that. If Im gonna stay local, then I need to be home by a decent time during the week. I'll do 12 or 14 a day, but just start me at 4am lol.

I have a pretty good idea what hub you're out of. Same here, if I'm right. Haha

My thought on the original post? If you are older and just want a nice gig until you retire, then OD may be the way to go.

If you are younger and can handle a really messed-up schedule and maybe some light money in the first year or two, UPS is one of the better opportunities in trucking.
