Holy #### ^^^ this!! If I even had to do one 14 hour day I’d be ready to walk. There’s no way anyone could have any quality of life like that. Not all money is good money.

We are a fraternity not only because we are Teamster brothers and sisters, but because you can't quite explain to a normal person what you go through in the early going over here. It's insanity.

I worked a 12.5 hour day today, and I'm limping like I just pulled a coal mine double. This is my max. Lol

Yes it was quite the pay cut, still worth it for me because my job was leaving the state and I didn’t want to follow the job. In my opinion if a guy has a $100,000 a year job and likes it, don’t leave it for UPS. What is really the difference in $100,000 and $130,000-$160,000. Not much in my opinion. That being said UPS is an awesome job!

Well don't forget the 100% company paid insurance, which is a good bump for most people. Plus the unseen bump in pay with the pension. Probably a good $40k (probably more, but I'm being conservative) in benefits on top of the checks they cut to you.

But again, it's not for everyone, and if you're happy where you are, that may be where you need to be.

You are absolutely right about the value of all the benefits you get at Buster. My wife routinely talks about how great our Teamster Insurance was compared to any other options available. We had UAW Ford insurance at one point and it paled in comparison to the Teamster Insurance.

In my area (Chicagoland), the starting pay at UPS isn’t great compared to XPO unless you start as a team driver. (Team drivers start at .71 cents a mile and 30/hr for unloading, delays, fueling, etc).
    BUT
If you go in as a solo driver and stick it out until you hit top pay, it destroys XPO pay and benefits. It’s all about being able to pay your dues for 4 years until you get there.

A topped out hourly UPS driver here will make $40/hr with OT after 8. Let’s say for example, a UPS driver works 12 hour days (2 hours less than you) for a 5 day work week. They will Make $560/day and 2800/week working 10 hours less a week than you at XPO (assuming you work 14hr 5 day weeks).

On top of that Pay, they get amazing health insurance at a no cost premium for you and your family. Deductibles are $100/single and $200/family for the whole year with a 90/10 co insurance. Also they provide a pension for you that can pay out as much as $4300 month here in chicago after 35 years of service on top of whatever social security will pay you + plus any retirement distributions investments you might have, etc).

XPO insurance doesn’t even come close to matching and the premiums are high with terrible coverage. So this is why your co workers are leaving to UPS, because they are looking at the big picture investment.

We don't fully separate the team drivers from the solo drivers. You can do teams one bid, and then solo the next. It's all about hitting four years and getting to top scale.
