Hiring usually starts in March or April, depending on the need for drivers to cover vacations over the summer.

It helps if you know someone that works there or has retired from UPS. To drive the box truck you have to work the docks first, meaning playing tetris inside those trucks. (that usually only last a couple weeks before having the opportunity of moving up to being a delivery driver)

Driving the box (brown) truck pays very well but to make the BIG money you want to become a "feeder" driver, i.e. a day cab pulling a single trailer or doubles/triples.

My daughter plays the game of tetris inside the box trucks currently, she has worked for UPS coming on 10 years and loves it, has no desire to drive. I have 2 nephews that drive the box trucks and are home daily making close to 200,000$ a year with overtime and benefits.

If I were younger and smarter I would do whatever it took to get on at UPS, most if not all of their employees/drivers retire millionaires. if not multi-millinaires.

Yeah i wish i didnt spend my teens messing around and got a job at ups when i was younger before a house payment and responsibilities and bills.. i would have helped my parents pay the bills and we all would be in a better place today. I highly regret that about myself.. im 35yrs old but with about 5-6k worth of bills to pay in this inflated market idk if i can do ups unless its feeder sleeper with someone who has decent senoirity.. but man thats a career ive always wanted. We shall see what the future holds for me. Ups is king of trucking jobs for sure.

Get your application in there, make phone calls to the hiring manager. You will have a few weeks of paying your "dues" on the dock but the job/benefits after is phenomenal! If I were 35 I'd be hellbent on getting in that door...GO get it, look forward, you have MANY MANY good years in front of you..Don't look back and WISH you had tried.

Thanks sir very kind words also very inspirational yeah ill apply when they are hiring again and stick it out. It definitely is worth it once you get over the hump.. i wish all trucking companies were union honestly then i would have more options but its between ups and abf freight then old dominion 3rd which is also a amazing company but i still view old dominion as a job not a career a very very good job a career for most and i could retire their with no complaints but its not a career thats just my honestly opinion. Wish me luck trucking isnt an easy industry as much as people think it is.

Funny story, or just a "story".. I don't know anything about them but I went to school with a girl that drives for OD..Loves them! Her and her husband make a TON of money driving team from KC to LA multiple times a week.

    Good Luck Driver!

Thanks appreciate the kind words. Wish my wife would just team with me still would make the process a lot easier and more money too the house.. yes od is a company you can retire from i believe the story great story i love stories based upon true stories. Glad they are happy they deserve it we all work hard out here.. my wife isnt fully over driving just hates being treated poorly we never worked for a company that treats us with respect we deserve and thats why shes over it. She wants to take care her health as well i dont blame her.

    Can’t get enough miles..
Their system you can’t get more than 2500 miles in average no matter how available you are, trucks are slow and you get long trips but with way too many days to deliver like almost 300 miles average a day

I have a buddy who is a feeder driver (class a big rig) for ups in SoCal the top 5 busiest hubs in the United States) he’s 50 years old and it was his first and only job since 18, he said there’s 800 drivers at his hub and he’s number 500 something meaning he has over 30 years experience there and there’s still 300 guys with more seniority than him!

during the whole Covid hiring frenzy they hired outside guys for the first time ever (you normally have to get hired from within since they have the strongest union for a private company) anyway even at his hub they are restricting everyone to 60 hours a week because volume is so slow and all the new class a guys they hired during Covid they are working as part time wharehouse package handlers right now with part time package handler pay

ups is the top dogs for pay no doubt about it but it’s a job you have to start off as a young man

none of the ltl companies are hiring in Southern California or even nationwide I check all the ltl companies website regularly and there’s only a sliver of openings quite scary to be honest and man I feel sorry for anyone looking for a job right now
