I'm stuck in totally non-moving traffic on Donner, heading west, 74 miles from Sacramento. There was a sign a couple of miles ago saying there was an accident 5 miles ahead, and to "drive carefully," but now we've been just sitting here for an hour. I have 13 minutes left on my clock.
I do not think I could have adequately foreseen this. The pass isn't even bad enough to warrant chains. However, all rest stops since climbing the mountain have been filled with piles from the snow plows, and closed. What could I do?
And what can I do now?
---
Update: we finally got moving and inched along, and I pulled off at the first safe and legal place I could find.
I don't have a CB.
I LOVE Trucker Path, but I've been using it solely for truck stops and weigh stations. I'll have to play around with it to see what else it can do.

You find the first legal parking and park it. Note what happened and go to sleep.

Where did you get that information? I only have one app for California, and it's not showing this at all. -
I'm just looking at truckers path. I think I've stayed there before but I'm not sure, I don't do Donner too often.
Truckers path has a traffic layer, I think it just uses Google maps for that.Chewy352 Thanks this. -
Log it as you drive it, I believe there's a provision for weather and emergencies, you just can't use it all the time. I'm sure some will elaborate or correct me on this.
Loose Leaf Thanks this. -

(b) The rules in paragraph (a) of this section do not apply to a motor vehicle which contains Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 material if all the following conditions exist—
(1) The vehicle is located on the property of a motor carrier, on the property of a shipper or consignee of the explosives, in a safe haven, or, in the case of a vehicle containing 50 pounds or less of a Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 material, on a construction or survey site;
and is defined as:
an area specifically approved in writing by local, State, or Federal governmental authorities for the parking of unattended vehicles containing Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 materials.
Adverse Conditions is what applies.
§ 395.1: Scope of rules in this part.
(a) General. (1) The rules in this part apply to all motor carriers and drivers, except as provided in paragraphs (b) through (r) of this section.

Except as provided in paragraph (h)(2) of this section, a driver who encounters adverse driving conditions, as defined in § 395.2, and cannot, because of those conditions, safely complete the run within the maximum driving time permitted by §§ 395.3(a) or 395.5(a) may drive and be permitted or required to drive a commercial motor vehicle for not more than 2 additional hours beyond the maximum time allowed under §§ 395.3(a) or 395.5(a) to complete that run or to reach a place offering safety for the occupants of the commercial motor vehicle and security for the commercial motor vehicle and its cargo.
(2) Emergency conditions. In case of any emergency, a driver may complete his/her run without being in violation of the provisions of the regulations in this part, if such run reasonably could have been completed absent the emergency.rank, brian991219, Toomanybikes and 3 others Thank this.
