We have seagulls in the east. If you ever have anything in plain view... they bring many friends.

With that said, there was a big crow in Illinois that used to get into my tractor's airflow and then try to see about that treat at the window. In other areas out west we have birds of prey settle about 4 feet to the right and behind of stack above inside the airflow to where it can just glide and eyeball everything for miles.

They are pretty smart cookies, them birds.

Stay on 5 and 84 IMO. The mileage you save ain’t worth the hassle running them secondary roads across Oregon. It’s basically 400 miles of 2-lane hell from Eugene to Ontario and often a narrow and winding 2-lane hell. And 20 proper east of Sweet Home is definitely a no-no unless you’re a local log hauler or something.

It’s a solid 100 miles of no services between Burns/Hines and Bend and about 70 of none between Ontario and Burnes/Hines, although a lot of trucks run these sections of 20. There are also some pretty serious cell phone dead spots once you get into those canyons west of Ontario, so if that’s your only means of communication it would be a bad spot to get into truck trouble. There’s a couple okay stops in Hines but otherwise you’re not going to find much in the way of truck services along this route so make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel and hours if you’re going to try this shenanigan.
