Lying on Apps or at interviews is not a one way street. Companies do it all the time to get more apps from drivers because they, the companies cannot keep good drivers because of the lack of respect and honesty towards drivers. You get what you give. I worked for US xpress of Chattanooga for over 3.5 years with 3 of them as a trainer. I forget the number of times I had to turn my head when the new drivers to be were saying how the recruiters told them about all the money they were going to make. Honesty???? It needs to start with the companies. You get what you give. Besides, these companies have a hotline to DAC and can see in a moment whether of not they are inviting a good, safe driver. Maybe, it would cost a whole lot less money to pay the drivers they have, a respectable wage, take care of them that take care of business. I do not feel sorry for those companies that do the meaness they do and lose so many drivers. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

I think it depends on your back round too. I agree that most recruiters will say anything to get you in and make there commissions. I have the opposite happen to me, I was hired by a national fleet with only 10 months of recent experience, someone got confused when they saw that I had 16 years of OTR experience. What they did not realize what that I retired for 13 years and recently got back in to driving. After I was road tested and given an offer of employment, the call came in about my experience. They said I needed 2 years of recent experience to work there, however, since my road tester told them what a good driver I was, they agreed to give me another road test for 75 miles, turning, backing and what ever they could throw at me in order to satisfy the safety department. Well I passed with flying colors and got the job. Other companies, like Heartland, will not budge on the experience levels, even though I have 16 years of prior experience.

The guy who started this thread must have had something come up that the company would not accept. Believe me I feel your pain, my advice is to find out what it was and try to disclose that to the next company or find a way to get around it. It may have been a bad reference, you just never know, I have had bad references as well or like a company I used to work for they just dont answer to references that are requested from them. There is a lot you can do to protect your reputation from ex-employers if that is your problem. The only way to find out is to ask the company who black balled you or gave a bad reference. Best of luck with your job search, dont give up, they are not all that bad. Like the advice someone else gave you, dont go with the companies that are advertising all the time, you have to ask yourself why they are always looking for drivers?????

I sent off for my criminal background and w2"s for the last 20 years and got all references down to 4 people with good ph#'s and a dmv report when i go to orientation so i wont be sent home-get that stuff done because it's hard to remember what you did 2 wks ago let alone 20 yrs ago-i had one company that went out of business 10 yrs ago and they couldn't confirm that i worked there and wanted a w2 for that year to prove it-it also looks good on your part when your prepared-jus trying to help, good luck.

In response to what the very first guy commented on. He is correct. I was there. Even though I was hired. When I went to the Georgia Terminal for orientation. There was about a 100 people. One by one, they pulled you in and they went over everything. They went over every little thing, going way back. I mean way back. If one thing was out of place, your out. I'm not talking criminal either. Example. I remember one guy worked for a one man guy, in his small town. The old man died. And because us express could not verify with the guy, they would not hire him. They just got stupid on what they wanted. At the end, about 40 people walked out of there, getting the job with us express. The rest had to find a way home at there own expense. A lot of guys did not expect this and really did not have the extra money to get back home and on and on.

Then the fun starts. You are assigned a dispatcher. Let me tell you, they jerk you around a lot. Example. Take this short run load and we will give you this pre plan big long run load. OK I say. I do the small run load. Half way to pick up the big long run load. Beep. Canceled. It happens at least 25% of the time. Even when I tell them, don't be canceling on me. They do anyway. I switch dispatchers 3 times, and it still don't matter.

If you ever drive by a us express terminal, you will notice lots and lots of bobtail tractors in the yards. You might think, man, they got trucks waiting for guys to fill them. No. Every time, they tell me to go to the terminal to wait for a load, I cringed. There is always 30 to 40 other people sitting, waiting for loads. And you are now 41 in line to get a load out. Average wait, 3 days. Inside the terminals are nice, but with all the people wandering around, it's more like a mall.

In addition, they bought total and arnolds. So they now have to split getting a load with these companies.

I about had a heart attack with that company. My blood pressure was through the roof, the time I left. I'm 49 years old, very patience and I can put up with a lot of bull ####. But us express is ###### upped.

I think as long as the person you name knows you, then you can use them as a reference. I would make sure that the person you name for personal references knows that you are using there name and you should be good to go. Good Luck!
