That was sort of my situation. I had 2 years OTR, one year local driving and 10 years in between.
I applied at several companies after I did my CDL refresher course.
Swift brought me to orientation and I didn't make it past the physical due to my cpap machine. Funny how so many drivers have it but are undiagnosed but me who is being treated is red flagged because my machine isn't sophisticated enough.
Mesilla Valley Transportation doesn't take refreshers from other schools but told me I could get a year somewhere else and come back. To take a paycut? No thanks.
Knight said I didn't have enough recent experience but call back in 6 months.
Pam, Averitt and US Express never got back with me.
The company I am with now is small but they gave me another shot and I'm very happy where I am at.

Bottom line, if USX kicks you to the curb during orientation, they did you a favor. I would rather eat tang sandwiches for the next year then put up with the hell you have to endure to make McD wages at that outfit.
USX was a good outfit and then they went all JBH on the drivers and decided running back and forth to the rail yards and sitting on docks is what they wanted their OTR drivers to be doing. -

We (wife and I) determined they like those short runs. Even offered a sliding scale based on shorter the better the pay.
Decided to stick with a Reefer pulling loads coast to coast.
